What’s the merit to Seattle making that trade?

There have been several reports of that being the case. It’s not official but those are the reports. SEA takes Tarasenko from STL, then for agreeing to flip him to us for Voracek and a 2nd or 3rd, SEA agrees to take Hagg as part of the expansion draft.

I don't think the Sabres take that for Sam, my guess is they look for quality over quantity.

i like this but it would strap us with $ for next year with coots and g due new deals, which the aav for both should just be a swap. but we have farabee going to be an rfa and his bridge deal would be 3-4 mil. i would rather get danault than reinhart

It would definitely be tight. Hypothetically, G gets 5, Couts 8.5, Farabee 4.5, Allison 2 , Laczynski 1. That’s 21M. 18 in space. We would also need a 6th dman. So it would definitely be tight. My thinking is that after next year Hayes loses his NMC so we then try to move him ( easier said than done) and then we move girgensons with his 1 year left. Depending on how Tarasenko does, he could be a one and done and we either move him or buy out his last year since his actual salary is lower than his cap hit. There are options but this is a much more defensively sound team. Could also hang onto TK instead of Reinhart and save 500k

Wings not giving up anything for a winger making 7 million a year for the next couple of years. Leddy deal and Staal deals were made because we needed LHD, not forwards.

Not the right team or fit

Detroit has a TON of cap space and I would think they would like to give Larkin a decent winger for the top line. They literally have one forward right now signed after this upcoming season (Larkin). As currently constructed, Detroit is going to have a hard time signing free agents without just simply outbidding other teams. They need to put a competitive team on the ice. It’s not just about being so bad that they get a top 5 pick. They also need to sell tickets and merchandise. I’m not saying JVR jerseys would be flying off the shelves but he is a scorer and that would make Larkin happy. Otherwise what incentive does he have to stay after his contract expires?

They have two RFA's they will be signing before tha start of the season in Vrana and Bertuzzi, after next year they have Zadina, with Raymond starting his career in NA this year. They need a center not a winger, so again not a fit. Also they have space yes, but Yzerman has said he like the flexibility and taking on a 7 million dollar contract for a guy who will not be here when they are better is just not a good plan.

Also Larkin has Bertuzzi and could have Vrana who both are younger and better suited for the rebuild than a 32 year old. Again cap space is king and just not taking on 7 million unless it is a problem, like LHD is, right now. Have several wingers in AHL looking to kove up. Not so much for LHD

If you turn Detroit's '21 3rd into a '22 4th you'd probably get a yes.
