Expansion Fallout - Bean Selected

Created by: vikhodush

Description
Admittedly don't love this team. Lot of moves (not likely realistic) after the expansion draft assuming Bean is taken.

As a whole I think this defensive group is pretty strong although it's clear they would miss the puck-moving and offensive mindedness that Dougie brings, particulary to the PP which this doesn't really address. But I do think this is a really tough 1-6 to play against, especially in the playoffs.

3 really strong scoring lines and a young, pesky 4th line with some potential to drop in a few goals here and there. Also have some additional cap space that they could use at TDL to improve around the edges.

Honestly not too sure about the trade values, tried not over thinking it but I may have missed the mark so let me know what needs to be added or removed to make the trades fair for both sides.

Not sure about the value on this one - Skjei and Gav are probably somewhat similar value if you take the contracts out of it - for the Jackets to take on a higher cap hit I threw in a D prospect and a mid round pick. Let me know what needs to be added/removed for either side.

I can't see Foegele + Bokk + 2nd + 3rd really being that enticing to Yzerman, and that's before adding the Gardiner cap dump. They're probably looking for something more like a 1st + Suzuki, maybe even adding in another mid round pick. Not saying you should pay that, but that seems more like the deal he would be looking for.

Carolina should do everything in their power to keep Bean. Losing him to the expansion would be a huge L

That's fair, thanks for the feedback. I figured it's one of those situations where teams would likely have to overpay and not sure I would do it at that price. I like Bertuzzi but the back injury scares me a bit and I don't think he's the player you overpay for personally.

I'm 100% with you but unfortunately they've left it up to Francis and I'm fairly confident he ends up taking Bean. I think Canes will look back and regret it but time will tell. I personally would have protected Bean over Skjei because I don't think Francis bites on Skjei at his cap hit anyways but I think the team is scared that if Dougie does walk, it'll be tough to replace 2 top 4 guys in an offseason.

I have another post that I just did where Francis selects Nino instead of Bean. I like that team much more bc of the flexibility it allows for the Canes but I think it's less realistic based on Seattle's likely selection.

I don't see the Oilers doing it, and especially throwing in a 2nd. We currently only have Bear and Bouchard under contract that play RD... reports are mixed on Larsson or Barrie coming back. We'd have to make to other trades/signings in order to move Bear. Given that a cheap RD is valuable, I don't think the Oilers need to downgrade their pick to this extent to do a deal that helps Carolina more than it does Edmonton.

That makes sense. I was a bit worried about this offer after it seems like reports indicate Larsson isn't re-signing but I did see similar reports saying Barrie could very well come back. Again not super sure on the value but seemed like Nino would be a good middle 6 fit on the Oilers and Canes could use some RD help. Thanks for the feedback.

Up until a couple days ago it sounded like Larsson essentially had a deal they were waiting to sign post-expansion but now things are sounding like he at the very least wants to test out the UFA market. I would sign Larsson over Barrie in a second. There's a real shortage of RHD on the UFA market so it's critical to not open a hole on that side that you don't already have something in place to fill.
