Description
We might have to buy out Johnson. It would hurt, but I think it will be tough to get anyone to take his contract.

I think if the Oilers are going to offer a conditional first, there needs to be a little more in terms of team success in the conditions since Palat is essentially a 1 year rental before he hits UFA. I'd be ok with lowering the point provision to say 60 but changing the playoff condition to winning a round or two.

I think Tampa retaining any salary is a bad business plan for them. In that retention time, you would need to give contracts to Point, Cirelli, Cernack & Sergachev, plus fill out your roster with bodies. That $2M is needed over that time frame. Tampa also is light on picks and has some holes in the pipeline. Giving up picks and retaining salary is again not something they should do. Just my thoughts though.

In all honesty I think you have to pair up Johnson with someone like:
1. Alnefelt (Vas is your goalie for the next 8 years, pick up any veteran on the FA market for $2M to back him up)
2. Joseph or Boulet (figure out which one might be the better for you in the future and let the other go)
3. Cernack, Gourde or Cirelli (again, you know you wont be able to retain all of these assets long term)

So you would need to pick either your prospect goalie OR one of your young prospects OR a core player with some upside and money left. But that would help get Johnson off your books without losing picks or retaining.

If the kraken prefer gourde to killorn, you think a 3rd is going to change their mind? Try a first.

IF I was Tampa I would send picks in place of retaining salary. Almost doesn't help them with their cap situation.

Killorn has far more value to Tampa than this, and Tampa should not be trading him without getting good value in return. If a deal around Johnson to Seattle isn’t reached by Wed morning, so be it. Let Seattle get their one player, whether that be a more expensive F like Palat, Killorn or Gourde, or a younger player like Foote or Joseph. If they do take Gourde, sure it sucks, but then you move Palat for value and just keep Johnson, who is a more than capable 3C or top 6 W. If they take a less expensive younger player, Brisebois still trades Palat for good value, then looks to see what interest there may be in Johnson or what it might cost to move him. If the price isn’t worth it, then you trade Killorn for good value and keep Gourde. Only if Tampa wants to keep the Coleman-Gourde connection going will they need to trade/have selected all 3 of Killorn, Palat and Johnson.
