What I would have tried to do before the roster freeze

Description
Just messing around with what I would have tried to do if I was Detroit's GM pre Expansion Draft. Obviously none of this can happen now.
This is all based on not knowing any deals made with Seattle, so as far as I'm concerned there are none.
UFAS are signed after expansion draft.
I'm sure all these teams talked about stuff like this already and it didn't work but this is what I think could have worked.
Tried to improve Detroit for the long run by acquiring players under the age of 26 and other future assets.
In the end Detroit loses 2021 2nd DET #38, 2021 3rd DET #70, 2021 3rd VEG #94, 2021 5th OTT #138, and Thomas Greiss.
They gain 2021 1st EDM #20, 2021 3rd #89, 2022 2nd EDM, Rasmus Kupari, Vitek Vanecek and Mason Appleton.

Trades
1.
WSH
  1. Greiss, Thomas ($1,800,000 retained)
  2. 2021 5th round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Hagelin cap dump with Vanecek sweetener. They get Greiss in return with half salary retained to meet exposure requirements and to have as a veteran back up for Samsonov.
2.
DET
  1. Bishop, Ben
Additional Details:
Part of a 3 way deal with Edmonton, Dallas gets Detroit's second round pick for Bishop instead of losing him for nothing. Anyone left to be picked from Dallas isn't a significant loss at all.
DAL
  1. Copley, Pheonix
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Copley goes back to have a goalie under contract to expose. He can be buried with almost no cost to the team.
3.
DET
  1. Koskinen, Mikko
  2. Turris, Kyle
  3. 2021 1st round pick (EDM)
  4. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Koskinen gets bought out after expansion draft. He waives his clause to go to Detroit for the buyout so he can sign with another team.
EDM
  1. Bishop, Ben
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Edmonton sends 2021 1st as payment for Bishop and taking Turris. Detroit moves up 18 spots from their second rounder they gave to Dallas. They add a 3rd for extra value to Edmonton. Oilers also send a second for taking Koskinen. Detroit can now expose Koskinen as a signed goalie.
4.
DET
  1. Eberle, Jordan
  2. Hickey, Thomas
  3. Komarov, Leo
Additional Details:
Komarov gets bought out after expansion draft. He waives is clause so he can try and find a new team to play for.
NYI
They send Eberle with Komarov's and Hickey's cap dump. They would lose Eberle in the expansion draft for free. If they trade him with Komarov and Hickey they gain a bunch more cap space. They would then have the room to go after Landeskog or Tarasenko and be able to resign Pelech, Beauvillier, Sorokin and possibly Palmeiri. I would expect Seattle to then take Bailey who I feel hasn't performed up to his contract yet. That would give New York even more flexibility.
    5.
    WPG
    1. 2021 3rd round pick (DET)
    Additional Details:
Trade for Appleton so they don't lose him for nothing. Used the Dickinson value for this trade.

No way Edmonton would give up a 1st and a 2nd to move on from one year of Koskinen to acquire a $5mil goalie who is injured all the time.

Think you vastly overrate the value of the oft injured Bishop. Oilers can live with Koshikon for a year

Probably no way they give up a young dman and a pick for 38 year old Keith unless salary is retained...
      ...oh never mind

I think you wasted alot of time on this...
Your flipping so many players, but not adding any value to the trade... so I don't get why those teams just wouldn't go straight to the source. I think you just created the first ever 4 team trade with Detroit, Dallas, Edmonton and Washington.

You bought out two players whos contracts really don't hurt Detroit seeing as your team has about $10M in space so a buyout on both seems like a bad idea.

Copley & a 2nd for Bishop seems like a horrible valued trade, Especially when you just move him on to Edmonton. Detroit just doesn't seem like they need to be involved in that trade at all as they add 0 value to any of those deals and they arent getting anything out of this either.

Holland is an idiot, but that said, giving up a 1st and a 2nd and Eberle for a goalie who might not even play 10 games before he gets injured again is ridiculous when he could just buy out Koskinen himself rather than have Detroit do it for him.

Actually now that i think about it, i cant believe i just wasted my time explaining how bad all of this was...

even if thats the case, could literally drop the picks a round or something like that to make it work, its more just the idea rather than the actual return anyways

Yeah the value could be a bit off in that. The value Detroit brings is saving Edmonton from having to buy out Koskinen and Turris and they basically move up in the draft because of it. Copley is only involved so Dallas meets exposure requirements, which comes from the Detroit side as well if the Washington trade happened. Eberle isn't part of Edmonton fyi. The buyouts would allow them to take on another cap dump or 2 like Johnson from Tampa or something of the sort. Edmonton could buyout Turris and Koskinen but it still hurts their cap, just not as bad, probably want to buyout Neal anyways. Oilers could then spend a bit more on wingers. Bishop is one of the best goalies in the league, when healthy, if his games are limited by spitting time with Smith then they would make up a great 1A 1B combo.
Not like this could even happen now, it was just a fun hypothetical to think about.
