    I don't think that's terribly far off.

2nd + Jarventie probably does it. Heck we'll retain a bit and maybe throw in Hajek since DJ will find a reason to bench one of those short LHD over the course of a season.

That should definitely be more than enough. My thought was just Thomson and a 2nd.

A 2nd and a prospect not named JBD, Sanderson, Pinto, Greig or Sokolov (please God not Sharky) is a price I could live with. Don't move the 1st for him, and Don't give him more than 5×5.

I think Ryan Strome is a good player, but he's exactly the type I'm terrified of Dorion trading for. Due for a huge raise, will be expensive to acquire, and he's primed from massive regression in his production when he's taken away from Panarin. I can see how it could work out, and he could be great with Stützle, but I'm also getting severe Derick Brassard flashbacks

If Strome doesn't commit to an extension of at least 3 years, the trade is called off.

We should have no interest in rentals at this point in time, unless we're making the playoffs.

We need solid NHL players that actually want to play for the Ottawa Senators.

Just a technicality. Ottawa can't "call off the trade". You either trade for him or you don't. It's the Rangers who have to go to Strome, and get the signed extension. I guess the question is do the Rangers inform Strome that if he signs the contract he is going to traded to Ottawa or they don't inform him.

When Mark Stone was traded to Vegas, he immediately signed an extension afterwards.

If we trade for Strome, I want things to go down the same way, only with less money and less term than Stone.

Strome won’t want to go to A FOURTH REBUILDING team (well the rangers are out of the rebuild pretty much now but they were when he was traded there)

It was t different for Stone. Ottawa was out of playoffs Ottawa had offered a fair contract but he was going the UFA route. So Ottawa/Vegas and Stone deal for the trade and the signing.
I agree with you that the Sens would want a guarantee of an extension, but really it's Strome's decision if he wants to forgo UFA next summer by signing a extension now.
If the money is about right...gotta think Strome would love being a Senator. Lots of good forwards to share the responsiblities on a fun, improving team.

Senators really a good last half the 20/21 season. IMO they are close to finish their rebuild. Lots of good young players and cap space. I like the Rangers prospects too but Ottawa just might be very good very soon.

It’ll take another 2 years of them to make the playoffs

The Rangers would presumably give teams permission to speak to Strome's camp about an extension, and the deal would probably be made on the understanding that an agreed extension would be signed. It's good for the team acquiring him to know he isn't a rental, and it's good for the Rangers because it maximizes his potential trade value.

OTT should stay the frick away from a player who is only good when paired with a top 5 winger in the league....

Fortunato is not a prospect, if he is, he isn't close to make the Sens top-30

You think the Rangers are going much better than Ottawa next season?

If Dorion doesn't sabotage it again (big IF), then I see the Sens rising next season.

After the coach and GM messed up several things and the players shook off the rust (no game for 10+ months), Ottawa was 15th OA in the NHL after February 13th
