Hertl and not much

Description
I am not opposed to acquiring 1 year of Hertl… that’s part of what makes him affordable. The hope would be that Rossi would be ready to contribute mid season and ready to take another step next year. Then when cap gets tighter, we let Rask walk and either trade Dumba then or, more likely, lose Hertl.
There’s just not much room in which to operate.

So I don’t hate the idea of Hertl either, but lately I’ve been struggling to justify it. Like the above team is definitively not a cup contender, and we know there are impending cap issues, so it’s seems counterintuitive to give up assets for a rental.

Its underwhelming, but I think we just need to patchwork center(s) with UFA and then look to trade off some salary next year via Zucc, Dumba, Greenway.

Love the idea of Hertl, but I don't see a world where he is that cheap.

Me either… it was people on other posts here that suggested this as his value…

I hate the idea of not contending at all for 4 years, but that seems to be where we find ourselves… I don’t know that trading Zucc, Dumba, Greenway get us a contender either

No neither do I. I’ve tried to solution out all sorts of options that keep us competitive, but it’s very tough with those cap handcuffs.

Trading Zucc, Dumba and/or Greenway doesn’t turn us into contenders, but obviously the general idea would be to flip them into prospects that align with the Rossi/Boldy arc.

The conversation for Hertl starts with a high 1st, a blue chip prospect and a middle six C under 25 with upside. Top line centers aren't cheap.

That's the ask for Eichel. Good luck with that.
