Butcher is a bust. Dont see them wasting cap space on JOhansen at 8 AAV. If Landeskog would sign in Seattle for 8 he would sign in COlorado for 7 as he said he would take less. Problem is he is looking for 9-10 million with full term

I would very much like Seattle to take Matthew Phillips over Giordano and Kylington, thrn we can have a more valuable player (Kylington) to use as bait for a top six winger!

Wouldn't label Butcher as a bust. He has been one of NJ's strong points, albeit his downs, for quite a few seasons now. Still a young defender too.

Johansen is a risk. At his best, he is a bonafide 1C. He has shown this in the past. He has had his struggles as of late (but is still performing at a decent level) but perhaps a new change of scenery is needed. Nonetheless, if I'm Seattle I'd be up for some gambling.

As for Landeskog, even if it's for 9m full term, I'd lock him up to that contract. Guarantees a stellar piece for the top 6. If he is majorly after term, 8m per at max term would be my ideal target as Seattle. Optimistic here. He may say he'd take less but if that's the case, something would have been signed already. So term is the main concern as you've noted. 8m, even 8.5m max term is something I'd consider.

Giordano is too old for the age profile of the team I'd like to build. A good piece nonetheless, but he is slowly starting to show signs of decline. The core in place would be better off as is than with further revisions. Lacks a superstar or star but is very deep with some really strong prospects.

As for Kylington, it came down to Kylington and Phillips but eventually went with the latter. I like how he is developing and I can see him becoming a solid piece of Seattle's core. A shame about his kneecap injury that sidetracked what was a strong year. But I'm expecting him to bounce back strong now that he has had adequate time to heal. Plus, I'm confident with the defensive core assembled as noted above hence why I'd go with Phillips instead.
