Quoting: Buffalove
GMs say stuff like that all the time
It’s a negotiation tactic
Doesn’t mean he’ll stand firm
Maybe he will, maybe he won’t….
But that’s something that NONE of us know,
including you
If you're going to come on here and spout off about "nObOdY kNoWs!!!", you're probably missing the point of ACGM, friend.
And yeah, GMs absolutely say that stuff all the time. It's up to us to figure out if there's any logic to it.
So, here's the logic, and why I'm pretty confident that it's true:
1) Anaheim finished 2nd last this past season. They're rebuilding.
2) Jack Eichel, if healthy, moves them from 2nd last to about 6th last. He doesn't take this team and turn them into a contender. When the team inevitably misses the playoffs, and he pulls an Eichel, only this time he has a NMC, which puts the largest set of handcuffs imaginable on the Ducks.
3) Rebuilding teams typically don't trade their top prospects, especially when both project to be allstars.
4) The Sabres, in all of their bumbling, have managed to take their top asset and drive his value through the floor.
5) The reason Anaheim were included in these "rumors" was because they have cap space, picks, and prospects. Saying that the 2nd worst team in the NHL is going to trade their top young assets for Eichel is hilariously dumb when you actually think about it.
Anyway, I guess the point is, instead of screaming "YOU DON'T KNOW BECAUSE NONE OF US KNOW!", maybe sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. It's ACGM. If it hurts your soul to see your best player get tossed around the league like my late Aunt Judy (God rest her promiscuous soul), then you're probably in the wrong place.
