Description
Another take on what an off season might look like as of now.
Probably still too much happening but it's what I would like to see.
Tampa sends Johnson with Foote and a first for Namestnikov with half salary retained. They get a solid 3rd line player to replace the players they are going to lose to be cap compliant.
Minnesota sends Rask with a third to make room for a potential Eichel or Kuznetsov trade.
Gardiner cap dump with Foegele and a second, svechnikov goes back to play with his brother. Gardiner gets buried in the minors.
LA wins the Bertuzzi sweepstakes by trading top prospect Alex Turcotte with Quick's contract. Kings also get Greiss back as a veteran back up for Peterson.
Flyers dump ghost with a second and third so they can make a push after acquiring Ellis.
I start veleno, Raymond and Seider in the minors for this year. Come deadline time I look at trading rask, Leddy, glendening, gagner and maybe Fabbri if the right deal comes around.
At that time I would look at bringing up the young guys.
I wouldn't expect to resign Neilson, Rask, Glendening, Gagner. Leddy would depend on LD development, if McIsaac or Viro or Cholowski are ready to take the step up to full time NHL spots.

I don't doubt it but they do have alot of centre depth, this is my ideal trade scenario

Detroit would get JAD+1st or Thomas+1st,or Kupari+2nd.That's the best offer I could see the Kings make.

I think on the Kings you could toss in the #23 pick to get this done. They are deep at Center and need a guy like Bertuzzi as well as getting Quick off the books. Maybe even retaining half on Greiss helps.

Suter isnt coming to Detroit, even for higher pay. He is in a position to pick his team because he is still making $7M next year. Likely will pick a top team and ask for $2-3M for 1-2 years. He can still play and will be simliar to what Corey Perry has been doing since his buyout.

I think I would skip on the Philly trade from the Detroit side. Let some of the younger guys get in the lineup as well. Save extra space for closer to the deadline when teams are desperate for help and need some CAP help.

The wild have plenty of cap room for Rask for this year and his contract ends this year, even if they get Eichel.

Yeah suter would be ideal, but I could see a guy like Yandle coming to play for a year or two

I didn't want to retain on Greiss cause then you have no more retention options at the deadline for a guy like Leddy

Honestly I was thinking that with the Philly trade, it was a last second throw in

I wouldn't really say they have plenty, they have to sign Kaprizov, Fiala, Johansson, 2-3 defencemen depending on who they lose, maybe a back up goalie also depends on who they lose. I'm guessing just those first 3 players get anywhere from 15-18M out of the 26 of cap space. Then throw Eichel in there and there isn't alot left. Rossi, Boldy, and Addison should be on the team but they will still have a couple holes.
That trade was just speculative on getting eichel so they probably don't do it otherwise.

I don't see them signing Johansson, maybe Bonino. That said, giving up a 3rd for someone to take Rask seems like a terrible option

No way Rask leaves for nothing- let alone a sweetner included.
Suter would want more if he was playing on a noncontender, which I dont see.
Ghost could very well be Seattle bound, and Gardiner isnt that bad (but overpaid yes)

Detroit should be using every bit of their cap space to take on bad contracts with 1 or 2 years left on them for more picks and prospects, like you did with the LA deal. There are plenty of contracts teams want to move and Detroit is at least 2 years away from competing for a playoff spot.
