Team: 2021-22 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 20, 2021
Published: Jul. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Goals for this team are to try and add to prospect pool, focusing on centre depth and goalie.
Trade #1 - Johnson, Foote, Goncalves and a 2022 1st for Namestnikov with half retained salary. Basically paying for the Johnson cap dump while Tampa gets a good third line player with a cheap salary for they year.
Trade #2 - Gardiner cap dump with Foegele and a second rounder. Foegele as asked for a trade to a team that will play him more, he gets top six minutes in Detroit for now. Send Svechnikov back so the brothers can be united.
Trade #3 - Bertuzzi, Greiss and a second to the Kings for Turcotte and Quick. Bertuzzi gives them the gritty winger with skill that they need. Greiss will be a good veteran back up for Peterson. Second just to balance it out. Turcotte instantly becomes Detroit's best centre prospect and I think his strong two way game will fit in well with Blashill. Quick gets reunited with Bernier, this time as his back up as his play has declined greatly. Run that tandem for the next two years.
Trade #4 - Matheson for the next 5 years. He fills a hole on the left side for now. Get Légaré and Clang to add to the prospect pool. Clang immediately becomes Detroit's best goalie prospect. Second rounder just to help for value.
Trade #5 - Eriksson and Beagle cap dumps, they send the 9th overall pick but get the 22nd back.
Trade #6 - This one probably confused most people. Buffalo doesn't want to spend money but will still need to reach the cap floor, especially when they trade Eichel. This deal has to be made after the signing bonuses are paid to Beagle and Neilson. Buffalo saves 900K in actual cash this year but gains 4.65M to get to the cap floor. Thompson and Girgensons haven't really performed all that well, they would be reclamation projects for Detroit. Maybe a change of scenery and getting out of cancerous Buffalo will help them. I send a fourth rounder just to help with value a bit. Also both players are both set to make 200k more than their cap hits next season so this deal saves them a bit more next year as well.
For the draft I would be hoping to draft Eklund and Wallstedt in the first round.
Trade deadline I would be looking to move everyone on expiring deals. I think Leddy could get a pretty decent return with half of his salary retained. Fabbri would need to get a really good return for me to want to move him. I would take whatever u could get for Glendening, Gagner, Johnson, Matheson, Quick, Girgensons and Gardiner.
I want the young guys to play most of the season in the AHL then bring them up after the trade deadline.
I bought out Dekeyser just to make room for other players. Eriksson I would expect would only waive for a buyout.
Enjoy.

I think your most realistic move is the one with VAN. I'd be surprised if they turned that down.

LA doesn't have salary cap issues and they need a goaltender to back up Petersen. Greiss isn't a significant upgrade, and he isn't the fan favorite that Quick is. Trading Quick doesn't make sense.

That makes this trade Turcotte for Bertuzzi and a 2nd. LA easily declines that deal. Honestly, even if you upgraded the 2nd to the #6 overall this season, I suspect the Kings would still decline, although Blake would have to at least consider it.
