SJ Doing a Lindros Trade Just for the Lols - Fun Discussion Thread for Tuesday

Created by: areax91
Team: 2021-22 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 20, 2021
Published: Jul. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is in no way a realistic nor a desirable trade for San Jose, as good as landing McDavid would be. Still just felt this would make a fun discussion thread and a break from all the Kraken and draft talk.

I'm not having fun.

To Oilers: The San Jose Sharks and most of their fans.
To Sharks: Connor McDavid

Not sure we'll ever see that kind of trade again being that trading cash is banned (as it should be).

To be fair, San Jose had been competitive for over a decade and a half in the bigs. Too bad we haven't gotten a cup for our troubles but it'll be interesting to see how our team transitions with a rebuild (or at least a depth overhaul) over the next few seasons. Just hope we don't end up like the Sabres or pre-McDavid Oilers as a result though.

Then again, it WOULD be amusing to see McDavid arrive at an SAP Center with no team to play with and then rebuild in his image.

True that, the salary cap has evened the playing field considerably and it averts the issues the A's and Rays are suffering now in the MLB. Still, with our owner, you'd have to suspect an NHL without a salary cap would be ours to lose with all the SAP money we could use (well, we probably would anyway given our postseason track record but still!).

We're not rebuilding. It isn't possible to offload our massive contracts with clauses etc. We NEED to rebuild but cannot realistically do it.
