Not many GMs are stupid enough to give Hamilton that contract - Holland definitely is though.

If we sign Hamilton to that deal, you best believe Bear better learn to play with Keith.

You don't shell out that kinda money for anything less than 1st pair 24+mins/night.

4.5 x 6 for Smith. Gotta think it's a bridge deal to his CPP start.

That contract would be a steal. Most ppl aren’t arguing the 8m AAV, rather the 7-8 year term he’s looking for. Oilers would be lucky if he decided to take that offer from them, would bail out some of the dumb moves Holland has made this offseason. Unfortunately for them there’s no chance he takes that offer and almost no chance he signs in EDM regardless.

lol.... a steal? Wow.

Hamilton ain't worth anywhere close to $8M a year, despite what he and his agent might think.

At that term? Yes that’s a great deal. What do you think he should get?

What the heck does term have to do with it? Term doesn't go against the cap.

$5M-6M - he's a solid Defenseman, but that CAR team props up all of his numbers. He is not an elite guy. Elite guys make $8M.

Term has a ton to do with it, they’re a huge component to contracts and a lot of guys and teams (rightfully) care about term.

5-6 is a massive underpay. I’d love to see it as a Canes fan but top pair offensive minded defenseman are extremely valuable and that’s why they get 7-8+, and ultimately what Dougie will get. I think the flat cap is what’s squeezing him now, if not for that he’d be eclipsing Petro’s deal from last year if the cap had gone up to 85+ which was projected.

If you look at his underlying metrics, he’s responsible for driving play as much as anybody on the team, whether he’s playing with Slavin or some of the lesser defensemen on the team.

I understand he will probably get that, but he shouldn't. The same way Landeskog will be massively overpaid by someone along with the countless UFAs we've seen in these past years be massively overpaid.

To suggest he's in the same kingdom as Petro is ridiculous, hence my stance on his contract.

Actually, if you WATCH his play without Slavin, he leaves much to be desired.

I’ve watched probably 95% of his games with Carolina at a minimum. That’s not the case but sure we can go to the subjective eye test and agree to disagree.
