Leafs gave up assets to trade for a significant replacement over Kerfoot in Jared McCann. They didn’t protect him and decided to keep Holl. That is a terrible decision

Boy what a bad move if it's McCann to Seattle. They out think it and get burned...

Tried telling Leafs fans on here all along that McCann would be picked unless they packaged extra assets with Kerfoot and got constant push back. Dubas really big brained himself on this one.

Who are you replacing Holl with? With what cap space?

Hmmm, either lose a depth forward or have to try and fill a spot in your top 4 D. Choice seems pretty easy.

It's not the end of the world that TOR lost a player they practically never had in the first place.

Are you kidding? Dermott or Sandin as internal options. Hakanpaa, Hamonic, Poolman, Vatanen, Demers, all come in under or around 2mil. He's decent value at $2M but I don't think having Justin Holl on the second pairing gives the team the best chance to win. He's not good enough offensively or defensively and goes on streaks where he's a major liability. Justin Holl is a bottom pairing defenceman whose numbers are propped up by Jake Muzzin. It’s a mistake mistake to protect him rather than Dermott or Kerfoot.

Sandin, who hasn't played regular minutes up until this point. Dermott, another young defenseman, playing in the top 4 on his off side? No thanks.

Can you guarantee that any of those guys listed sign with TOR? No? I suggest not leaving a glaring hole in your top 4 D then.

Holl wasn't even a defenceman in the NHL until he was 27 years old. Dermott is 24 years old and has played 208 career NHL games.

Since he came to Toronto, Jake Muzzin has only played 90 5v5 minutes with Travis Dermott. Goals when they're on the ice together: 7-0 Leafs. Incredible small sample size yes. But still, can’t tell me Travis couldn’t do what Justin does.
