That trade makes too much sense for Holland to consider.

Peterson is a cap dump essentially,,and he doesn't have this value. Wild wouldn't do this deal.

Zucker isn't waiving for Edmonton

Pettersson is a solid defensive defenseman, skates well enough but has some issues. He would be a solid choice to replace Suter in the top 4 as he is still a legitimate Top 4 guy. He's still fairly young at 25, decent size at 6'3", but has struggled to put on weight.

All things considered, he was one of the first targets that made sense to go after, after Suter was bought out. He's only a cap dump for Pittsburgh who want to shed his salary, meanwhile we're beneficiaries of getting a quality top 4 guy under the age of 30. For that price Guerin would be a fool not to do it.

I don't think it's that much of a no brainer. He could be a solid target, but he makes 4M for 4 more years. We're already going to have to move a few guys in the next few years to make everything work, so not sure trying to fit him in is the best solution, if you can find a mostly viable alternative in free agency for half that.

It's not a bad cap hit, it's decent in fact, and his M-NTC doesn't kick in until 23-24. He could be moved before that if it becomes too costly. It's a move for the next two seasons more or less.

Although, Dumba's contract comes off the books that same off-season too. Which frees up $2M. But I get your point.

But which legitimate Top 4 defenseman is going to cost less in UFA? $4M is the going rate for those guys. McCabe? Everyone thinks he'll take $2M and be happy. He's likely going to cost every bit as much as Pettersson does.

I disagree on the price tag proposal here.

2 3rd rounders? He's easily worth more than that. He could fetch a 2nd and a B-level prospect. This is a steal.
