One of the best goalie over the last two years in terms of GSAx, hopefully he can't keep it up and it's not another Scott Darling contract from Ron Francis.
There's absolutely no reason to have stuck with Driedger with Kahkonen still available. Hell, they could've taken a chance on Bishop and it would've been a better choice. Taking Driedger now also prevents them from getting Vatrano, who would've been a great choice for a paltry forward corps.

26 total games in that time frame. Doesn't deserve anything near this contract
26 games this year my bad, still doesn't deserve this contract
Driedger played well this season in Florida but he isn't a full time starter. Right now this is an overpayment but we'll see if he can live up to this contract

Sharks signed Martin Jones when he had 34 games under his belt. Jones was pretty decent for 2 years then he fell off a cliff the last three. Goalies are so hard to tell.
I think this is a good signing for Seattle since Driedger will likely be their starting goalie and is only getting paid 3.5 million. He deserved a better opportunity like this and more money. I have a feeling that he can take it to the next level with the Kraken.

This is exactly what i was thinking. I think hes a good pickup, and hes played really well. But 3 years at this price seems like quite a bit for a guy who has been a backup and is now being thrusted into being a starter. That is assuming Seattle doesn't get a tandem guy to play with him. I don't think Vanacek is the guy to do it.
Shocked they didnt pick Kahkonen, but I would expect Dreidger to platoon with Vanacek- and I wouldnt be surprised if Vanacek ends up being the starter.
This was an overpayment based on the sample size..but not a huge one.
