Description
While I do think we may be able to squeeze Landeskog in next season, I don’t think it’s the wisest decision long term (any contract he gets will almost surely overpay him). Instead, I think we should target multiple players to use the cap space on. Reilly will create a lot of offense from the blueline and I’ve been convinced that a short term deal for Palmieri will, at worst, leave us with a defensively responsible middle-6 winger and at best, the sniper who scored 25 goals a season in New Jersey.

I’ve debated whether or not it’s a good idea to sign Parise and I ended up deciding to let him go elsewhere. Not sure what their plans with Panik, Bellows and Golyshev (and this wouldn’t be realistic if I didn’t include Komarov) are, but I feel like we have enough options internally to fill the 3LW void. Personally, I’m most interested in Anatoly Golyshev and look forward to seeing what kind of player he will be in the NHL. But while Parise has a nice ceiling in terms of what he can still be as a player at age 36, he also has an incredibly low floor. I think I’d rather assess what we currently have than go bring in yet another question mark.

Id much rather spend a 3rd and move hickey, and give martinez a 2x4.5 deal. Hes better than reilly and is a lot more proven. Plus he'll be a good partner for dobson next year. I can see a reilly-dobson pair being a defensive liability.

There are a couple issues with Martinez imo. The first (and biggest) is that he’s going to be 34 and is just now coming off a career year on an absolutely stacked Vegas team. Both his production and analytical impact were great this season, but I do see him being a regression candidate based on the fact that he’s getting older and hasn’t had a season like this is in some time. For these reasons, I also don’t think he’d take a 2 year deal; I think he’d probably be looking for 3, maybe even 4 years and I think someone would give it to him.

Reilly would be paired with Mayfield, now that we know Greene is coming back and has actually been really solid defensively the last couple years. I think him and Mayfield would be an even better balance of offense and defense than what they tried to have with Leddy.

Just my opinions though, if we could get Martinez reasonably, I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to that. And I really like Reilly
