Reilly is a pending ufa next offseason and Höglander was a real contender for the Calder

Rielly is a legit first pairing defenseman. He has flaws, but is year in and year out a top minute eater, can play tough competition (though not top end defensively hence flaws) and top of the league in offense.

You trade a guy like that on a good contract as a rental for a first and a good prospect.

Hoglander is a solid enough player but he doesn't move the needle all that much. I would expect him plus. But frankly Vancouver would only make sense acquiring him if a resigning deal was in place as he's a pending Ufa and Vancouver is not a contender.

Also hoglander was apparently 8th in consideration for the Calder. That is pretty deep to call a real contender.
