The term and money on Pettersson are very risky, especially with the regression he had last season. High risk, high reward. With that said, I'd roll the dice on this trade for the Wings and accept it.

There's no way you could convince the NHL that Malkin would be out with an injury for 11 months. The reason TBL was able to hide Kuch was because they waited to have surgery until December and it was a short season so they needed him only be out 5 months. Malkin had his surgery beginning of June. Can't convince NHL he will be out until next May.
