If you are willing to give up Dillon, there are better options. Holtby ain't the goalie he used to be. There are also several good goalies in FA

I prefer to keep Dillon. Swap it out for Schultz. Not sure we really need to give up a pick in this deal though. They want to move on from holtby after last season and there are plenty of other goalie options, not exactly a sellers market, you know?

There is a reason the Caps didn't try and keep Holtby.

I mean...I think it was more about the money he wanted as a free agent on the open market than anything. If Holtby wanted around $2M a year, he would have been a Capital.

Point taken, though I think to ensure salary retention it needs a little bit of sweetening. VAN isn't in a great cap spot either, and taking on a 3.9 or 4 mil d-man plus 1.4 from Holtby is a tough sell without some more incentive, I think.

Oh good point. I think you could do the trade even without retention since Holtby only has one year left, but I think I prefer to pursue other routes if I’m MacLellan.
