The Flyers got absolutely fleeced and I'm saying that as a Flyers fan. Horrible horrible deal.

Can I ask why Philly is okay with not getting anything in return for Ghost?

I'd imagine this shows what the market was for him. Despite him still being a pretty good player, the perception around the league is he's a cap dump. He went through waivers. Philly needs the cap space and they have Cam York ready to step into Ghost's role. I'm fine with giving up a 2nd and Ghost if we bring in an impact player with the cap space.

No. I really don’t get the ghost hate. He was one of our more impactful defenders this year. He falls out of favor with the coaches for whatever reason.

Thank God I don't have to see ACGMs trying to justify a 2nd round pick return for unretained Gostisbehere anymore.

Ghost has been on waivers like 3 times last season

He can still play in a team's bottom 4 though and it's only two years at 4.5 million per.

Ladd, on the other hand, might never play an NHL game ever again.

He's a number 6-7, not a top 4. Terrible defensively.

Ghost is decent offensively and needed a change of scenery for once.

He still gets a good chunk of ice time.

Players like Ladd, Hickey and Komarov do not.

I still remember when Gostisbehere was going to be a superstar O-defenseman.

I remember seeing a post on either Reddit or Twitter asking if people would take Ghost or Werenski and while it wasn't a majority, a load of people still said Ghost

Great trade for Arizona to acquire picks for taking on Gostisbere who is still a serviceable NHL defenseman despite not being worth his cap hit. The yotes win this one in my books.

I didn't think it would cost that much to dump him. He's a LOOOT better than Ladd, meanwhile Ladd who costs more, cost two seconds, and Ghost cost one 2nd and a 7th...

I thought it would be more like ghost and a second for a fourth

This one hurts. Philly's FO really failed this past season in a lot of ways, including not providing Ghost with top powerplay minutes and then waiving him. Those actions were detrimental to his trade value and perceptions around the league. Simply put, terrible asset management with respect to this particular player. Now we pay the cost of it. Credit to Arizona. Ghost is good, and he'll prove it out there if you just pair him with a competent stay at home type partner, and use him on a 2nd pair and top power play. Enjoy the highlights to come.

You have trades like this while Seattle is signing Oleksiak to that contract + NYR and Goodrow

I'll never be a GM in the league because I'm too smart for the position

Man, Gostisbehere will not be even close to reach the upside that most of us thought. But Flyers get fleeced here. They made the guy looks like Jack Johnson. HUGE WIN for Arizona.

Gostisbehere had the most PP TOI per game this year for Philadelphia. Whether he was on the first or second unit doesn't really matter since the coaching staff usually sees them as 1A and 1B. He's pretty poor defensively and isn't reliable against rushes. He's also inconsistent in moving pucks out of the zone effectively. Pretty small price to pay to dump $4.5M for the next two years for a guy who isn't that good anyways.

i think my favorite part about this trade was seeing Friedman report the return as a 2022 2nd and the blues' 7th, going to their CF page, and going, "wait, the coyotes don't have the blues' 7th round pick in 2022," before looking at the draft board, finding out that the blues' 2022 7th round pick belonged to the flyers, and realizing what had actually happened.

again, cap space is king in the flat cap world. it's hilarious how desperate GMs are to get out from under contracts they perceive to be bad. (inb4 the coyotes take Loui Eriksson from the canucks for a 1st)

(incidentally, seattle should 100% offer-sheet elias pettersson, but that's not for this thread)
