I think people are voting "yes" because this would've been a good deal for Carolina. I'm not convinced it's a good deal for Detroit. It walks Ned to UFA in 2 years, and Detroit won't make the playoffs in either of those 2 years.

Carolina for some reason does not like to spend Moonies

But having cap space is important

So is having good talent

I'm concerned about all the other RFA's

Why Carolina wouldnt pay this, and ship off their only good young goalie is mind blowing. Its not like theyre chock full of good young goalies and prospects. Even if the Wings only keep him for 2 years- the price was dirt cheap (and they could recoup that easily at the trade deadline 2yrs from now).

When they said Carolina might be scared of the arbitration award, I thought they meant it would be around $6 million. This is an absolute steal of a contract for the Red Wings, and the fact that Carolina wasn’t willing to pay it is embarrassing.

Cannot EVEN believe the Canes gave away Nedeljkovic! They couldn't afford $3MM AAV?!? Wow!

WHY COULDN"T WE PAY HIM THIS MUCH???

If Ned was asking for only a 3 million AAV then I'd pay him that in a heartbeat. If we sign Bernier for more than this (we probably will) then this may be the worst moves we have made in recent history. Good for Detroit, but awful for us Canes.

That's no secret. I haven't been fond of Dundon ever since day 1 and it's only gotten worse. Hopefully this doesn't go too far downhill.

As of now, it does not look like Detroit are serious Cup contenders over the length of this contract. If Ned regresses, then that's 3MM a year for (probably) at least a regular NHL starter, which is fair. If Ned remains really good the next two seasons, then he's going to get a pile of money as a 27 year old UFA, whether in Detroit or elsewhere, and if it happens to be Detroit, then his future big contract messes up their Cup window in 3-4 years and if not, then you lost a great goalie for nothing just before your window. This would have been a great contract with a contender and a great contract if it were 4+ years, but it's the wrong length with the wrong team.

Bernier won’t sign in Carolina
