Even then it doesn't excuse the terrible return for Nedeljkovic in the first place.

I like Bernier and think he's underrated due to the terrible team in front of him, but could have had him without losing any assets. The 3rd rounder for a calder finalist is just a complete joke.

Nedeljkovic only played 35 games. This is the Canes backing their defense over the goaltender. Remember, Nedeljkovic didn't even have the best goaltending stats on the team (Mrazek) It's a very very very bold bet, but if the Canes got this right, the return is justified.

Ned definitely played better than Mrazek this season -- but Mrazek also played well (at least during the regular season). Stats this season:

Mrazek
regular season: 12 games, 2.06 GAA, 0.923 SV%, 3 SO
playoffs: 2 games, 3.90 GAA, .873 SV%

Ned
regular season: 23 games, 1.90 GAA, .932 SV%, 3 SO
playoffs: 9 games, 2.17 GAA, .920 SV%, 1 SO

My man. This is not accurate. Ned 100% had the best stats of the group. (Link below)

Mrazek - .923 SV% 2.06 GAA but more importantly .87 GSAA and .41 HDGSAA
Ned - .932 SV% 1.90 GAA 7.91 GSAA and 3.49 HDGSAA

Those saves above average are big. The kid was 25 years old and was just a rookie. He actually has room to grow. This is the PERFECT goalie for CAR. They finally had a good goalie because Mrazek and Reimer stink. Bernier is at least better than Mrazek and Reimer, but CAR could have had him for FREE. It's just such a shame. Last year was the 1st year CAR had good goaltending since Ward. Then Waddel (The new Chiarelli) trades him away for peanuts. It's alsmost like he's trying to make this team lose. I'm just so pissed off at him. Worst GM in the game and this is the worst trade of the year by far.

Hill has played more than 35 NHL games and has done it over multiple years.

Nedeljkovic had a 15-5-3 record in 23 appearances, with a sparkling 1.90 goals-against average and .932 save percentage.

Then in the playoffs in the playoffs, impressed going 4-5-0 (2.17 GAA, .920).

Finalist for this year’s Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s Rookie of the Year.

I’m sorry but he is worth more than a 3rd. But agree to disagree, all good.

IMO he was the perfect cost controlled goalie for the Canes. But you would know the team better than me

This Canes team couldnt wait to get rid of Ned. Put him on waivers then after having an elite elite season, trade him away for scraps. Weird. Goalies just dont have value in this league. Kahkonen not being picked by the kraken as a waiver exempt player still confuses me! He had potential like Ned

Nedeljkovic wasn't cost-controlled. This deal takes him to unrestricted free agency. He was AWFUL last year when the Canes had both Hamilton and Pesce out, and the D core was made of spare parts and Slavin playing 50 minutes a night.

Ned believes he's an elite goaltender. Carolina didn't. He signed a 2 year prove it deal 2 years ago. The Canes didn't buy it, even after the elite year. The only thing is... when he didn't have the best D core in hockey in front of him, he struggled. When Pesce and Hamilton were hurt, he was a sub .900 goaltender.

This was a bad move at the end of the day. As much as I’ve tried spinning it or making sense of it, it’s not good. Should have gotten a much better return than a 3rd rounder which is pretty useless to this team. Likely going to end up spending the same amount of money on Bernier and probably the same total amount on goaltending overall. If they make a move for a guy like Gibson, sure I can see how this makes more sense. Short of that, this was poor asset management and optically a nightmare for players they would hope to attract this year and in the future. I’ve defended Dundon time and again when he’s taken hard line negotiations but this one is plain stupid from a numbers perspective. He needs to take a step back and remove himself from these deals, let the front office do their job and just have some oversight, don’t sit over their shoulder constantly.

Sorry for the rambling episode. I’m clearly not pleased.

He just signed a 2 year deal for $3M per. This is as cost controlled as you can get. He's also much better and younger than either Mrazek or Reimer. There's no doubt that CAR's defense helps the very mediocre Mrazek and Reimer look better than they are. Yes, same is true for Ned and whomever they have in net. ALL CAR should want is a goalie for less than $4M per year and above average. They haven't had that combination in years. Ned and Bernier would have been HUGE.

FIRE WADDELL!!!

Lol wouldn’t scream fire Waddell at this point. Front office has made some really good moves paired with some head scratchers as of late. Willing to give benefit of the doubt for at least a couple of weeks to see how things shake out before picking the pitch forks up. That being said I think this was still really stupid and handled miserably - but one would imagine a bigger picture plan is out there somewhere?

There has to be a bigger picture we're not seeing. There just has to be. I personally think Waddell has been making bad moves for a while now. That Brady Skjei trade was the start. CAR needed a goalie because Mrazek and Reimer weren't good, BUT Waddell wouldn't give up a 1st for Lehner, BUT he then turns around and send that same exact 1st for Skjei. That was an eye opener for me. I started to really focus in on Waddell's moves and I really do think he should at the very least be on the hot seat.

Over the last 48 hrs CAR lost two impact players in Ned and Geekie (in the future). They have a 3rd round pick to show for it...and didn't shed any cap at all. I do indeed like Bernier, but all reports that I've seen show that there is no deal in place at the moment. Let's not forget that ironically Ron Francis was the guy that put most of this team together.

seems like they did him a solid and traded him where he wanted to go, to be closer to family. Why you would give that luxury to a guy that played 29 games for you? I don't know...

Mrazek is literally an above average goaltender. When Raz is hot, he's EASILY a top 5 goalie in the league, his issue is consistency. He's only hot for like 5 games a year.
