They can though I did the other side. Have 16mil cap space with 18 players signed after the move

That's exactly why they don't. They need to sign other players. Taking on 8.2 plus retaining while trying to sign Landeskog makes no sense for them.

The whole point of this trade is if they were to miss out on signing Landeskog if you read the trade details….

But as pointed out, the draft comes before free agency so it makes no sense.
