That's kinda rude...Kreider is a consistent 20+ goal scorer who brings plenty to the table.

If we're talking strictly from a contract perspective, yeah, he's absolutely overpaid based on the length of his contract, and he also has a NMC, meaning that he ain't getting moved.

which is the correct take. His term is why is undesirable as a player. If he had only 3 years left on the deal, he would be a desirable trade asset.

It's kind of funny because we were all dumping on the potential Hyman signing in Edmonton yesterday, but when you look at comparables, Kreids is astonishingly close, so realistically, if Hyman gets his $5.125, you could actually consider it a discount, which is weird, because it's a bad friggin' contract tears of joy

the only thing is Kreider deal was signed before the Flat Cap era, if it was a few months later, that deal would never have happened.
I think the Goodrow deal is just as bad as the Hyman deal. Do not give term to bottom 6 players.

Hyman will be good for the first half, but a 7 or 8 year deal to a 29 year old is so reckless. Depending on the salary structure, if they back load the salary, Edmonton is going to be in PAIN if they have buy that out

Once they put the cap in place, it did two things:

-Fans got more involved in looking at hockey from a financial perspective.
-Fans got to a point where we analyze every friggin' player based on how much they make. I feel like an example of this would be Mitch Marner. Guy is a super skilled hockey player, but based on a few different things that aren't related to hockey in the least, aside from the whole media inspired narrative that "hE's BaD iN tHe PlAyOfFs!!!", where, oddly enough, he's got 25 pts in 31 career playoff games, which would rank him in the top 125 of all time in terms of points per game.

Kreider is a solid hockey player.

100%. It's absolutely astonishing that GM's just can't seem to figure out what so many of us already see tears of joy

Hyman is a bottom-6 player? That's a new narrative.

No that point was about Goodrow only. I said Hyman will do well lin Edmonton for at least the first half of the contract.

That's the danger of thinking you know the number, because you've seen it a hundred times, but then not looking it up tears of joy

The just of it isn't "Is Marner better than Kreider", in fact it's not meant to be a comparison at all. It's a "Fans now view players strictly from a 'What's there cap hit?!?!' perspective, rather than if they're skilled or not".

I feel like you think that I'm disagreeing with you, when I'm not...you are 100% right, Marner has 25 in 32 (which, ppg-wise in the playoffs would have him ranked 121ish all time).
