Keep Cale and Landy

Description
Keeping Landeskog probably means giving more term than Joe is comfortable with. I thought about a bridge deal for Makar but with the cap rising when he would want his next deal, it's probably best to get him locked up long term. Keeping those two means losing Grubauer, but I think Raanta can be a cheaper option. The injury history is a concern, but it's also what depresses his cost a little bit.

Not sure about Raanta as your starter. He is the definition of a tandem goalie. He can be good for 30-40 games/year, but he is injury prone.

Rumor is Landeskog wants $60 million. To make that work at your AAV you have to stretch it out to 8 years., 7.5 million.

And I agree with the above about Raanta. Suck it up and pay Grubauer

He can want it all day long, but given comps like RNH, Hall, and even Lee (before the flat cap) that’s some wishful thinking. I love Landy and all he brings, but he is at BEST currently the Avs 4th best player and who knows where that goes in the next 2 years but with Newhook and Byram on the team you would expect it to slide even further, and to expect effectively 10% of the cap on a winger who isn’t an individual play driver is a mistake. Will somebody on the open market do that? Seattle didn’t have any interest and they had $80M in cap space. Might somebody else? Probably, but honestly how rough do years 6, 7 and 8 look when he is 35, 36 and 37 yrs old making $8M. It will be unpopular but Sakic should stand his ground if that is really hat he is looking for.
