Barrie Me

Description
Busy day for the Caps with two sets of three-team trades. Probably need a touch more in the VAN trade, but people seem to overvalue Dillon, so maybe not? Flames trade might need a touch more, too, but if CAL is down on Monahan, maybe not?

If Edmonton doesn't want Barrie at 4 years in the 4-5mil range, they can have Schultz back at 4mil for one more year.

With the Ghost Bear salary dump being a 2nd and 7th for moving over $4mil and a serviceable player, I think the salary dump offers here are actually overpayments, but still in the general ballpark.

You think Van is giving you a top 10 pick and eating cap space for your garbage?

Kuzy for BSM I could see

EDM may not want Barrie since what they really need is a Larsson replacement. Schultz and Barrie are both not that. But, I assure you they would rather Barrie than Schultz if it comes down to that.

Eh, I think Schultz might feel better about it now with McDavid and Draisatl on the team. I think poorly of Edmonton's asset management, so I could see them making this sort of move with the opening and needs they have on the backend. But if not, meh. Maybe someone else will with less coming back to DC.

My understanding is that term is the issue, not necessarily player and AAV. Schultz's one year term I think is the selling point. Obviously, everyone would want Barrie more than Schultz. Maybe Edmonton takes Dillon, instead, and ruins all of my other convoluted plans.

Do I think the Canucks, a team with three defensemen signed, one of whom wants out, would overpay for a reasonably priced top-4 defender that "hockey people", if not analytics people, like? Yes. Do I think the Caps would probably have to give up more than what I proposed? Probably, but this is the offer I'd lead with in case Vancouver bites.

Yes sounds like EDM wants 3, Barrie wants 4 years. Dillon is LH right? Not a great fit. We'll see, I'd hope Kenny H tries to get Hamonic away from Van at half of Larsson's cost. Better fit.

Can’t imagine VAN giving up 9OA for that return. You can find a Dillon replacement fairly easily in FA without trading that asset.

Also think giving up that return for Monahan is way too much and doesn’t make sense for the Caps. Kuzy has had a down couple of seasons but Monahan hasn’t done much better

Yeah, the VAN trade is definitely short on the Caps side - I just think it depends on the desperation of the Nucks GM.

That's funny, because I thought that the Caps weren't giving up enough for the CAL trade in my mockup. I think Kuzy has the higher ceiling, but the extra cap hit and off-ice issues I think depress his value a lot. Monahan has had similar down seasons to Kuzy, but is younger, cheaper, and with two fewer years, while being able to actually win a faceoff. Maybe there's a player-for-player hockey trade there, after all.
