I'd probably just prefer a pick for Cousins, but I think that's a deal Poile would do. Mikheyev has size (6'3") to go along with recent acquisitions Glass + Myers and NSH should probably look to add a few Russian players before Askarov comes to town (maybe 2-3 years)

Brush stop flipping Hallander back and forth between the maple leafs and Penguins. You literally just traded him for McCann…

These are actually all horrible for Toronto..

1. Nothing of significant value even enough for Rielly is going in return so why add Kerfoot too?

2. Toronto doesn't need LTIR cap space. They're likely gonna get a pick and a NHL ready prospect for Hyman - maybe a 2nd or 3rd and Tyler Benson.

3. Rakell isn't the type of player Toronto needs to spend their draft capital on. They need a harder working type forward with skill, which is why they've been connected to Garland. That's not Rakell's game - if it's for less than that, sure. But Rakell likely gets more elsewhere.

4. MASSIVE overpayment for Bertuzzi. He's not worth a top prospect when he's at the top of his game, let alone coming off a serious injury. A hockey trade makes sense for him, a positional need NHL roster player for Detroit, and Bertuzzi coming back - but it won't be too prospects.

5. Cousins isn't a bad fit, but someone with more speed is needed for Mikheyev. Toronto can't afford to lose Mikheyev's speed on the PK now that Hyman's leaving. If they move Mikheyev, they need someone similar to replace him

they aren't getting a pick and a prospect for UFA rights. In the history of the NHL its always just been a mid round pick

The history of the NHL has never had a contract in place for the player moving immediately after he's traded. When rights have been traded before, the acquiring team takes a risk because they don't know if the player will sign. In this case, everyone knows Hyman is signing in Edmonton and an extension is already agreed upon. It's a sign and trade, it's not really just trading for the rights of the player.
