Description
Taking another crack at this now that the expansion draft is complete.

Canes need more firepower and scoring punch to take the next step and compete for a Cup. They're tight against the Cap and will have to let at least Nino walk after the season, but with another year of development guys like Jarvis/Suzuki/Drury should be able to step in and contribute on ELCs to balance things out. Svech gets a bridge deal, giving himself 3 more years to increase his value and cash in on the big $ long term contract when the Cap is on the way back up.

Hamilton talks have been really quiet around the league, I'm sure he could get a higher AAV from somewhere else but if he decides he likes the fit in Carolina and they give him an 8th year to spread out the cap then this is about what I expect it to look like. I like the D a lot better without Skjei and his $5M+ cap hit, this allows for more depth. I know Dunn is the D that Seattle is rumored to be looking to move but I'd push for Soucy instead. Don't know exactly the value of both acquiring Soucy and dumping Gardiner but hopefully not far off.

Adding Tarasenko is a risk with his injury history, but the potential payoff is worth it. Also pushes Nino down to the 3rd line, with the addition of Tatar creates one of the best top 9's leaguewide I would say. Also looked at Granlund or Hoffman in that place, but settled on Tatar. Or if a person wants to take a run at adding Reinhart and saving some $ elsewhere that could work too.

As far as goalies, I'm not sure you can get both Bernier and Mrazek signed. I like the idea of platooning both but if you're forced to choose one for a higher $ then go with a cheaper backup so be it. Either way I'm expecting 6.5-7M for goalies.

The Blues will want nothing to do with Skjei, so you're not even close to a deal, especially with 4M total in retention. So yeah, this is horrid for the Blues. Start over.

Interesting. Got the exact opposite impression from the last Blues fan in regards to Sjkei since Dunn would be lost to Seattle.

Meh trade, doesn’t help as we need a low cost 3RD

They're still 5-6 deep in LDs, and Skjei would be a particular problem in their system because he's so bad at getting out of the zone. Plus, his contract is terrible. Way too much to afford and weak value in return.

Blues already have Bortz, and Santini actually looked quite useful for a 4th RD. Plus, pretty much every LD can shift over if needed. They sure did enough of that to learn last season. I don't think that's a huge priorty now.

That was my review of each trade. Each line is a trade

1. If they don't have interest in Skjei then that could be split into two trades.
2. Why would you say no to Miller and go with an inferior D if he fits under the cap?
3. Maybe an overpayment, but just getting rid of Gardiner is probably costing a 1st. All in the Canes keep the rest of their 1sts and all their top prospects. For a legit Cup chance I'm good with that.
