Why? Is Jones not worth a top 10 draft pick? Hawks have no legit top RD for couple of season ahead.

I hate Stan Bowman. All that for a glorified 3rd pair defenseman who was good once several years ago. At this point, I'm surprised Bowman said no to Dach and Debrincat being involved. Frankly, I'm shocked they both aren't going the other way.

The really bad part for Bowman, if Dach AND Debrincat went the other way, it still wouldn't be his worst trade of the last 5 years... looking at you, Panarin.

Hi, don't think Boqvist will be at Jones level at some point. But changed my mind on this trade after reading the comments about Jones extension. If true Hawks made a big mistake.

If I had to guess, he probably came at CBJ with an ask in this range, and they said no chance. Same thing happened with Bobrovsky.

bowman has put the hawks through neverending cap hell and player mismanagement and he's been around for twelve years and counting smh

He's good on the PK but not on the PP and he plays minutes but he isn't good in those minutes. He hasn't been a top4 D over the past two years.

I feel like there has to be worse. Blackhawks have been around a long time. And you're still getting a great player, but yeah, biiiiig payment.

So only an hour after cringing at Ekman Larssons contract.... it doesnt look nearly as bad now. Still prefer Jones over Larsson- but $2mil per more...for 8 seasons (starts in 1yrs time) and gave up more way more picks/prospects.
If Garland scores 30 goals on the 2nd line in Vancouver...that deal might look like a great move.

In all seriousness, this has the potential to be one of the worst trades in recent history and that contract Jones got might start weighing us down the moment it kicks in. I was actually feeling really good about this team’s direction and future and we just gave a nice chunk of it away for a second pairing defenseman….

I usually go with the team that gets the best player, if I pick a winner. Jones is the best player in the deal, but it's an overpayment for a rental d-man, and the new deal they gave him somehow made the trade worse. CBJ wins this one easily.

This offseason just seems like GMs were cooped up too long and went nuts. I remember at the Vegas draft there were rumors of top 4 RHD being expensive, but they didn't move because teams wanted too much, this summer they seem expensive but GMs are just throwing assets at them like crazy.

This trade is just bad for Chicago no matter how you look at it. Jones isn't the level of defender they just paid for in terms of assets or cap hit, and you are likely buying most of his decline. To make matters worse, even if Jones is a top 5 NHL defensemen, this team isn't at a stage where adding that player would have been a good move anyway. So basically paid for an asset they didn't really get, and even if they do get that level of performance, they likely wasted the assets simply because they misjudged how close their team is to contention.

I think Jones has always been a little overrated, and while he is probably better than he looked last year, it's unlikely he lives up to that contract or trade, and I wouldn't be shocked if in 2-3 years Boqvist is more valuable than Jones on his own.
