Wallstedt to Detroit.

Dallas is already set in the goalie position and get good value for the pick.

Edit: Plot twist. Detroit takes Cossa.

This could be costly in the long run, but for now fair deal.

The 48th pick was used to move up from 26th to 22nd in 2018.

A trade involving my beloved Ottawa Senators.

I voted for the Detroit Red Wings.

If Detroit takes Wallstedt here, I think they win.

You really can't determine who wins until all of the picks are made though.

Normally I’d say Dallas won. But this is Yzerman. Of course he won. He’s probably about to draft the second incarnation of himself.

I don’t know. A lot to move up for a position that typically doesn’t pan out in the 1st round. But it’s Steve. So I will eat my words.

Going to say Cossa isn't worth the move up.

Personal opinion? As all drafts are.
I think trading up was a great move for Wallstedt. Not Cossa. Cossa coulda been at 23 (but unlikely due to EDM nearby). Wallstedt could be the best player of the draft imo.

I think this is a good deal for both team asset wise (this is before the picks were selected/panned out). Detroit gets the "Best" goalie in the draft and Dallas gets good value from the pick.

After seeing Holland trade down, it seems pretty obvious Cossa would've gone straight to Edmonton. If Yzerman thinks Cossa is the better pick, I wouldn't disagree with him. His ceiling is insane.

Cossa is very solid, he thinks he will be another Vasilevskiy so who knows I wouldn't down Steve like that. He did build Tampa.

Yzerman has now given up a 2nd, 4th and 5th to move up a handful of spots to snag Cossa and Buium. To me this signals we’re moving from the rebuilding stage where you get every possible pick, to the next stage where you use those assets to get players you’re high on

Looking at it now it looks like a dub for Dallas considering what Johnston has shown after the draft compared to Cossa, plus Dallas got other assets of value.

Even if they picked Wallstedt over Cossa I’d still prefer the trade for Dallas, even though it would be probably be a fair trade for both sides.

But I won’t jump to conclusions since Yzerman has always been so good at drafting, Cossa could become a beast in the future.

I'll be honest. I hated this trade at that time. I really wanted Brennan Othmann. But looks like they got this right.
