All of these awful moves by other GM’s today is actually making me feel a little better about have Jim Benning today. Didn’t make the worst trade today.

I don't know enough about prospects but hope for EDM this isn't a Barzal type situation... best player available, they're on the clock and trade the pick

for a team with no good tender prospects or any good tenders signed, passing on Wallstedt is truly the epitome of stupidity but hey atleast your not OTT who drafter a 2nd rounder at 10th OA

    The way I see it.

Holland is in win-now mode. Due to his age and having peak McDavid and Draisaitl.

Due to development curves, Bourgault will be a helpful NHLer before Wallstedt

Wallstedt was a goaltender projected to go in the ten spot, and then he fell ten spots! To us giving us the perfect opportunity to pick our next franchise goalie but then we traded the pick.

That's certainly the thought process, but they have zero goaltending prospects in the pipeline. This kid is going to need at least 2 to 3 years.

I'm no scout either, but I like Wallstedt a lot. So f*cking cookie cutter, it's beautiful. Was very surprised to see him fall that far and more surprised to see Edmonton trade that gift away.

Unless you think Bourgault makes the Oilers not this coming season, but in 2022-2023, then this statement is completely false. Wallstadt is one of the safest options in the draft and he's the safest goalie prospect in a long time to make the league. The issue with him is that his ceiling isn't as high as fans on here think it is. But Wallstadt is likely playing in the NHL by the end of the 2022-2023 season, he's very close to NHL ready out of the draft

we decent goalie prospects in Skinner, Konovalov, and Rodrigue so I wouldn't we have no goalie good prospects. obviously Wallstedt has Franchise potential and will be way better, but the Oilers do have good Goalie prospects.

sure. let's see what the active ones are up to..

    ACTIVE, GP, GAA, SV%
    MAF - 883-2.55-0.913
    Price - 707-2.50-0.917
    Rask - 560-2.27-0.922
    Dubnyk - 542-2.62-0.914
    Varlamov - 529-2.63-0.916
    Bernier - 394-2.77-0.913
    Vasy - 302-2.51-0.920
    Campbell - 86-2.47-0.918
    Subban - 82-3.02-0.899
    Samsonov - 45-2.61-0.908
    Oettinger - 29-2.36-0.911
    Knight - 4-2.32-0.919

    looks pretty "decent" to me

what about out-of-the-league ones at the same age range? sure! 1984 and up to make it fair for MAF

    INACTIVE, GP, GAA, SV%
    Schneider - 409-2.43-0.918
    Ward - 701-2.74-0.908
    Montoya - 168-2.65-0.908
    Toivonen - 61-3.37-0.890
    Irving - 13-3.25-0.902

so out of 17, you have 4 that are questionable/flat out terrible (Subban, Montoya, Toivonen, Irving) but 9 who have played 300+ games and 4 who are just making their mark (Campbell, Samsonov, Oettinger, Knight).. add in Askarov, Cossa, and Wallstedt and you have a breakdown that looks like this:

    10% trash
    10% top out as backup
    35% solid starter
    10% HoF
20% young gun, up and comer
    15% bonafide blue chip prospect

    i like those odds
