Oilers need to pay up if they want Hyman on a cheaper cap hit.

No its already guaranteed that he wants to come here so 5th rounder max. And at 7 years Hyman will still be very cheap for what some other teams would have given him.

Then enjoy him. Hyman is a hell of a player.

But Holland is the one who is probably reaching out to the Leafs and wants Hyman on an eight year deal, so the ball is in his court. A 3rd or 4th is the standard in these types of trades.

Flames should trade Backlund and replace him with Kerfoot. Cheaper, younger and better.

Is Kerfoot good defensively? Does he make his linemates better defensively? I like Backs because he is both IMO

you would be lucky to get anything for Hyman, Oilers are the ones with the leverage here.

Yea Kerfoot is a penalty killer so he is really good in his own end. The problems I have with Kerfoot are his size and shot. He doesn't play a physical game. But he's a great passer, he has good vision and he's smart. If he's paired with skilled wingers he can put up points. He is miscast on the Leafs and playing out of his element.

No. Edmonton wants Hyman on a cheaper deal. Toronto is fine with Hyman getting a 7 or 8 year deal. It makes no difference to them. Holland goofed up the Keith trade and needs to save every penny.

And Toronto is fine with that. It is the Leafs tradition to let players go to market. But why should the Leafs help Edmonton out for such a low return as a 5th or 6th round pick? It is not out of spite. It is a matter of value. 500k in cap savings per year is worth more than a 5th.

I don't think that Martinez will sign for $3 million, his contract negotiations will likely start at $4 million,

That Demelo trade is a good fit though, satisfies the Jets' need for an defense upgrade.

Definite no from Winnipeg. The Jets aren't trading an RD a 1st & 2nd for an extended LD they don't need with Morrissey, Samberg, Heinola and Stanley all on the left side.
