Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dubas and two others from the FO were on hand for the BUF-COL game. Rychel played for Bednar last season. Barrie can play either side, so he can replace Reilly. The key pieces are Duchene/Barrie, with Bigras thrown in as a sweetener/change of scenery and Martinsen a cheap grinder replacement. Reilly/Rychel/Kapanen are the main TOR pieces, with Komarov/Martin as cap casualties.

I think Rielly is about as untouchable as you can get for Toronto. This team will be built around Matthews, Marner, Rielly and Freddie. I don't think this trade happens with the leafs, although i'd love Duchene i'm not sure he'd fit well with Toronto right now. Maybe take out Barrie and Rielly and it gets considered but I don't think Leafs management is interested in moving first round picks, let alone two. Leafs have been burned by that many times in the past.

Sure, I can appreciate that. But with three scouts at the last game, you know TOR is looking at the Avs pretty hard. Dater said they were interested in 92/9. If the Avs can't make a trade like the one above, all that's left is a small trade for a guy like Mitchell or Martinsen for this year's playoffs.

I know they had 3 scouts there last night but honestly they could very well be looking at Calvin Pickard as a backup option or any other small piece. I would imagine that intense scouting is put into everytrade, no matter how significant it is. I like Duchene, and Matthews, Duchene and Kadri down the middle is wicked, I can't see us pulling it off by the simple fact we don't have the pieces COL is looking for (being that Rielly isn't being moved)

Does Kyle Dubas scout a lot of games? Just curious about that in general.

I don't think Dubas does a lot of scouting but I agree with Leafsfan. They could be looking at Pickard (though I think they're happy with their current situation there), or Zadorov as a cheaper solution to Defensive depth. Interesting concept but way too much for the package you put together.

Leafs wouldn't be looking at Pickard so he has to be protected in the draft. And the Leafs have Anderson.

Let's imagine Barrie and Reilly are equal. I can't imagine the Leafs trading 2 firsts, and Kapanen for two years of Duchene. Leafs are going to use their cap space in the next couple years to acquire players and it's likely not going to cost them their young stars or top draft picks.

Why do you think Duchene would bolt? He's signed two consecutive team-friendly deals.

Campbell: Cause he's a UFA and Leafs will have better players demanding big money soon...Marner, Matthews, maybe Nylander.
Duchene signed friendly contracts with the Avs. Check his record, he seems have peaked. He might even be overpaid at 6m.

I think the eventual return for Duchene will raise eyebrows. It's just hard to predict which team will overpay.
