Columbus traded one of their longest tenured fan favorites for Voracek. they arent going to trade him AND retain 4 million in salary for the next 3 years...

I would assume at that price Voracek would cost a good amount that's a more than reasonable cap hit for him he's still putting up 60+ points in a normal season

Why not? that wouldnt be surprising at all, they are rebuilding and if they can get future assets for him than they absolutely will

because it makes 0 sense. why would they trade such a big part of their team, just to trade that player and retain 4 million in salary for the next 3 years. it helps them in no way. the prospects are meh, the 1st will probably be in the early 20s. They arent going to go through all of that AND retain salary for 3 years. maybe if it were one year and MAYBE if they didn't retain salary.

Im not saying the trade would have to be with Toronto... Im just saying it wouldnt be surprising if Voracek is moved and salary retained. They arent anywhere near the cap and can afford to retain salary to get back that extra asset in a trade. They arent competing for a playoff spot and just traded Jones and Atkinson, if there is a trade where they can get prospects and picks they will make it. Makes ALOT of sense

they traded jones becuase they had to or they were going to lose him for nothing and they got 2 NHL ready Defensement out of the deal in Bean and Boqvist. they restocked their pipline with guys like Kent Johnson and cole Sillinger. They arent going full tear it down to rebuild mode. they made moves that would help them now and in the future. so again it doesnt make sense for what they are trying to do which is retool to open up a new window in the next year or two. there would have been no point in moving atkinson for Voracek if they were just going to trade voracek and retain salary. they could have just traded atkinson with out retaining salary. Voracek will be a blue jacket this year he wont get traded unless its a stupid massive over pay which i doubt columbus would get

because they arent going full rebuild. if they were they wouldn't have traded a popular guy just to trade vorack and retain salary for 3 years. if they wanted to go full rebuild they would have just traded Atkinson with out retaining salary for multiple years. Columbus isn't that far out from the playoffs despite this season. Boqvist looks to have top pair potential Bean has top 4 potential and Laine will likely bounce back to his 40 goal self. Sure they need center help but they arent going to be the bottom dwellers they were last year. and after this draft they have a fairly deep prospect pool with Johnson and Sillinger to be their future Cs. Trading Atkinson just to trade Voracek and retain 4 million makes 0 sense for the team. its not going to happen.

The whole point of trading Atkinson was that he does not carry/control the puck/play. Atkinson thrives as a finisher, scoring goals but not passing/assisting others in goals (kinda like Laine). Voracek is known to not only score goals, but drive the play with possession and he passes very well to set up others with goal scoring. Panarin does this extremely well.
