Description
leafs are LOADED at rw and can afford to move kappenen. Vancouver acknowledges they are a rebuilding team and sells tanev, a great shutdown top pairing D who will complement Reilly perfectly. carrick is also an underrated D who could add to Vancouver's slim young D pool

help me balance out this trade, or is it fair just the way it is

You mean the Chris Tanev who has eight assists in 33 games? Leafs have cap space and flexibility in the expansion protection lists to make a better deal without trading Nylander.
The other thing about Nylander is he playing RW for the first time in his pro career this year. The Leafs would really love him to be the centre behind Matthews long term. And with Kadri that would be really a deep centre position if they could perform obvious "talent". A right wing of Marner, Kapanan and Brown is probably the Leafs hope. Too bad Kapanen has been hurt for a month, at age 20 he seems to be have steps to be an NHLer.

Tanev is a defensive D. Points don't matter for him. Look at his corsi. Excellent shut down D. Exactly what the leafs need. He fills a huge hole
