Just cause I saw a burns to Detroit see what I could do with it

Created by: Lancebmx
Team: 2021-22 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 24, 2021
Published: Jul. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Saw a burns to Detroit trade earlier and what I think it would take to get it done and where it could go.
I know it's very unrealistic just for fun.
My theory is, even though they are giving up picks and prospects, by shedding big money salary they will be in a better position rebuild sooner than waiting for the contracts to expire. They can recoup other assets by trading players with value.
Jones to back up ned, hope he can rebound and gain some potential trade value, expect Cossa could be ready for a back up role by the time Jones contract expires.
Burns immediately makes they leafs tougher to play against and can slot in to the top pair with Reilly.
Bertuzzi brings the grit with skill mix the leafs need on the roster.
Detroit gets a good haul for retaining salary for 4 years.
Nylander doesn't fit the red wings timeline, he gets shipped to la for a future top centre in turcotte and kempe.
Couple cap dumps to help fill in the roster spots.
Player swap with Buffalo serve Neilson for cap reasons to Buffalo for an under achieving player who could turn out around with a change of scenery.

As bad as Burns and Jones contracts are, that is just way too much for SJS to give up, especially with retention on Burns

In this scenario why wouldn't SJS just send Burns directly to TOR with 50% retention? It's almost the same end result but both SJS and TOR are saved from sending a boatload of futures to DET for no reason

SJ are rebuilding they aren't giving up a former top 10 pick and a first rounder.Toronto finds way more value in Nylander to trade him for even more cap usage. Namestnikov is not worth Johnson and a first, I get that Tampa is in cap trouble but nobody will help them. LAK are rebuilding why would they give up a former top 5 pick. Svechnikov is worthless as he hasn't proven anything for the Wings. Bertuzzi is getting at least 5, Hronek is not getting more than 3.5. That's all the problems.

What is this - the only player in the SJ trade with negative value is Jones.
