Sabres prey on Tampa’s cap situation and acquire more draft capital to accelerate the rebuild. Meanwhile Tampa frees up 5M in much needed cap space. While the compensation looks like a lot this is the going rate for cap dump trades. (Examples: Marleau for a 1st with only a year left, Ladd for two 2nd round picks and a potential 3rd round pick, Ladd has two years left at 5.5M, Johnson’s 3yrs at 5M per cap hit is definitely overpriced but he’s a more serviceable player than Ladd or Marleau were

The trade for girgensons seems reasonable, but I don't think Colorado does it because they will struggle to fit him in the cap without shedding other contracts. You could probably get that trade somewhere though.

Johnson nor anyone else with any type NTC is waiving to that dumpster fire of a team called the Buffalio Sabres.
Note TB isn't the scumbag organization that threatens waivers to get a player to go where he doesn't want to.

Not to get him to take a trade he didn't want. Besides buying him out save 3.6 mil and doesn't cost any picks.

I get Johnson has more term left than Ladd, but Johnson is still a very serviceable player. Ladd, well that's a different story

Vancouver is not giving up a 2nd to move Holtby. If there isn't a better deal to be made then they can easily buy him out.
