Just not a good fit. Crow is certain and upgrade over Talbot, but Talbot is serviceable. If EDM love Maroon...that's fine. I don't particularly think he's a good fit for the Hawks.

Seems like some of those signings are low, just to get under the cap.

I don't think the Oilers need Crawford and again his 6m hit may not acceptable to Oilers or many teams. I wonder if the Hawks went crawling to Crawford and asked for to waive his NMC. So Crawford says. "yes" with a limitations on the teams he's traded to plus the caveat, I don't want to weaken my new team in a trade. Return to Hawks, a 7th rounder. Hawks don't like it, forget the NMC waive.

Why not something like Crawford for Talbot and Davidson? Oilers would lose Davidson in the expansion draft anyway and they can add him to Talbot to get a better goalie that makes their team a lot better immediately.
