Leafs don't have cap room for quality, they need young and cheap promising players to fill out their roster because $40 Million on 3-4 players hamstrings you on what kind of roster to build or how

they are getting Rathbone, Mikey Dipietro and Juolevi already and if Höglander is being put in the deal then bye bye Juolevi and DiPietro and that is what the Leafs need a young top goalie prospect and 2 young defense prospects with 2 4th line wingers that are cheap and rights to Leafs future 3C in Zloydeyev

Not going to deny that the Devils are overpaying but if they want the last Hughes brother and possibly the best Hughes brother then it's not going to be cheap and New Jersey says yes because they don't lose any draft picks in an upcoming deep draft where they could get Shane Wright if they have a bad season.

But why do they need to get him right now? The Devils are fine with their core and don't need to shake it up. If Quinn wants to come here as a UFA, we could just get him then

totally agree but I would guess this is how the Devils are thinking to sell more tickets by the Hughes brothers being the faces of the franchise and outside of Holtz and Ty Smith the devils can live without Butcher and Nolan Foote and to get a defenceman that is a one man PP machine and can breakout from his own zone.
But to think the Devils can get Hughes as UFA is not going to happen anytime soon specially if Vancouver gives him a 4 or 5 year deal.
