I think that trade is just the opposite of what the Sabres want to do - give up youth and a pick for a vet for what end? Sabres are clearly in rebuilding now if anything we should be looking to trade cap for picks and prospects.

I think what they really want to do more than anything is open up some opportunities for younger guys in bigger roles in the top six and the top four.

They still need a veteran presence back there and you do need veterans and experience on the team for leadership. It’s a very young blue line without Ristolainen and McCabe

De Haan would be a solid acquisition for the Sabres top four to pair with Miller or Jokiharju, and Dahlin has a good history with both guys. Him and Miller would probably be targets to be moved at the deadline, but both guys would help with development and will buy time for more development for guys like Samuelson who could benefit from another AHL year. Bryson probably competes for playing time as well

I brought in Hakanpaa for his physicality and toughness for the bottom four and to compete for a bigger role in Buffalo.

I hope the Sabres fill out their bottom six with some key role players and bring in some gritty guys which is why I targeted guys like McGinn and Cizikas. These types of guys will make the Sabres a little tougher to play against and would compliment the top six very well. And Haula would be a nice addition to the top six here.

I don’t think they want big splashes but good complimentary guys

Theyre giving up a nobody, they do need leadership too. Idk if De Haan is the answer but this is the right mindset

We know Mittelstadt, Cozens, Olafsaon, and Thompson will probably get a look at the top six. I think Skinner can be a candidate to bounce back under Granato, and Ruotsalinen can be a factor.

They really need to get some guys for that bottom six. We need to get guys to compliment that top group of skill guys.

And We’re probably going to have to add a veteran defenseman or two. We have four with extensive NHL experience and maybe Bryson or Samuelsson push for a spot

This is the only kind of lhd move that makes any sense, the kind that is basically free, provides a short term vet presence, and most likely gets us a 3rd round pick at the trade deadline.

And we would probably have to retain half at the deadline when we do move him or Miller, which is why he would be had for so cheap

Nope hate it, if you feel you need a mentor get one from UFA . I'd rather see if I could get Byfuglin to come out of retirement for a year just for the entertainment value.

You can get UFAs, this is equally as free though. Like i said De Haan may not be the answer but they need vets to set the culture, theyve been doing the whole youth movement thing for the majority of the Eichel era, its not working

To me he's a cap dump at this point and I'm not even paying a little bit for a cap dump- Sabres were doing a youth movement where they wouldn't let their young players play

Who? Eichel, Reinhart, Risto, Dahlin, Zadorov, Mittelstadt, Jokiharju, Thompson, Grigorenko, Girgensons, Guhle, Cozens all played in the NHL before they turned 20. Thats pretty much every significant young player they had since 2012
