Sam Bennett has signed a new contract with the Florida Panthers.

I know he did great when he joined the Panthers but that’s a small sample size. This deal can work out if he continues to thrive there.

This is either gonna be in overpayment territory or steal territory. All depends on how well he plays next season cause he could fall of again like he did in Calgary

Still seems like to much of a raise for a small sample size especially when you consider he may be their 3c with Rienhart's signing

If Bennett looks like he did at the end of last season, this deal is great for the Panthers. If he regresses to the mean… not the best.

The guy was a 4th liner half a season ago.

I have no idea if Calgary wasted him or if Florida got hypnotized by his play, but 18M is quite a commitment!

His shooting percentage was 15.4% at the end of the season. His average is 10.2%. I would bet on him not sustaining that.

Very risky contract. He wasn't even gonna be qualified before he was traded to Florida. I think the AAV and term should have been less. 3.5Mx3.

They literally based this contract off 15 good games. I can easily see this contract going sour in a hurry.

This is decent money for a second liner. Like a lot of people are saying, it's hard to determine if this is a good signing or not since he's really only shown the ability worth this money for about 15 games last season.

EDIT: I guess this means that Wennberg isn't coming back either. Panthers have about 7 million in cap left and most of that will be going to Reinhart.

Valid but how many players come to the state of Florida, get a little sunshine and absolutely flourish (NHL players are effectively house plants right?) If he builds on what he did down the stretch could be a bargain.

So change is 6 g and 9 assists to 4 g and 9 assists in 10 GP... Still over ppg, still a bargain for 4.4 mil.

I love the risk/reward here for FLA. If this contract hits, we could be talking about a top 5 team in the NHL over the next 4 years. I've been very bullish on Sam Bennett since the TDL, and I'm not going back now.

He should be a 3rd liner on a good team, so $4.4mil per is too much. At best this would be a fair deal if he was able to maintain his late season play for all 82 games, but I highly doubt he can. Barely kept himself in the line up in Calgary.

I see a lot of “this will be steal or an overpayment. This is incorrect. At the very best this is a fair deal. Most likely it is a not so good contract when he reverts to a 35 point player and a possibility of being a horrible cont tract if he goes sub 30.
