So change is 6 g and 9 assists to 4 g and 9 assists in 10 GP... Still over ppg, still a bargain for 4.4 mil.

Unless you meant on ice shooting percentage.

Sam bennet went from not worth his QO to nearly double in 10 games… this is not a smart idea.

I was just responding to exactly what the other person posted.

In regards to the deal, I think it's a little rich but I like gambles. He's always had the tools if he has finally put it together this will be a bargain locked in for ,4 years. But yes you are correct I suspect this is more likely to fail than succeed

Given Bennett's poor resume, this is a very risky gamble. But it could look like a steal if he keeps doing what he did upon arriving in FLA.

Rish/Reward as others have noted. But I think it’s smarter to take a risk on a player who they know works well in their Top-6 rather than taking a shot on a UFA later this week who they don’t know will fit in.

Moreover, Bennett is a Top-5 pick so he has the pedigree to suggest that perhaps his play from last season, while certainly aided by PDO puck luck, may not regress fully to the levels he experienced before.

This could end up going one of two ways. Florida ends up buying him out or trading him as a cap dump because Sam Bennett had a fluke, or it ends up being a steal of a contract because he actually gets some fairly quality minutes that was not accessible in Calgary. Either way it's a 50/50 shot. Florida takes it my personal take atrocious deal to be quite frank with everyone, but I don't mind being proven wrong in the next 4 years.

20 points in 15 games with panthers

could break the bank a lot worse than $4.4M per year

Bennett was always going to be hard to value. He was drafted highly, but he just wasn't good in Calgary. It wasn't just an opportunity thing, he got outplayed by other players in similar minutes such as Mangiapane, and there was little evidence to back up the idea of giving him more opportunity.

He had great results in Florida, and it was backed up by very strong underlying numbers. The problem for me with this contract is that it likely tilts a little too far toward Florida assuming he is more often going to be closer to the player he looked to be with them, then the player he was in Calgary, so I don't feel like they got quite enough of a discount to justify this bet. For this to be a slam dunk, he basically needs to be a 60-70 point player, and this is a brutal deal if he's nothing more than a passenger on his line.

I like the idea of bets on players, but I think this one just leans too much toward assuming he's likely to hit on the upside.
