Merkley dis not project as a top 12 Forward for the NJD next season, nor in the future. I'll take the defensive depth all day long. Thx Mr. Wilson.

Problem is, like so many 1st round picks, he's a top 6 forward who is not capable of playing top six. He projects as an AHL All Star or maybe fill-in for the Sharks if the lose multiple top six forwards to injury.

Barracuda really want to go deep in the playoffs and get more fans. They have a new arena opening soon and want to pack it in. WIth Merkley, Blichfeld, Wiesblatt, Coe, Robins, Merkley, Melnichuk, Hatakka, Kniazev etc they have potential to do some damage.

All of that San Jose and New Jersey trade talk involving Meier must have just been a smoke screen for this blockbuster deal.
