That makes sense short term. In 4-7 years, you still going to be ok missing 4.9M to $7.9M?

Dead cap bites. We kindof have 18M of dead cap now (Joey, Duchene, Turris buyout). In the end though, I'd rather have dead cap then no future. This team isn't going to win the cup. Our center group has been in decline and our forward group continually declining. To me it breaks down to, selling the future to maintain mediocrity or just accepting the caphit upon Weber retirement and going full rebuild. Sure a couple years of being bad will be disappointing but if we can keep enough to keep key contributors then we'll be fine long term.

4 years down the road i expect the following players to be gone
Saros - traded having been replaced by Askarov
Sissons - traded having been replaced by Parssinen
Kunin
One of Josi/Ekholm - 34 and on the backend of their career hopefully traded before they lose value
Johansen - contract expires - enough said

There will be alot of turn around between now and then. Best to take it one year at a time and keep some cushion from the salary cap so we don't have to make a panic move. Worst comes to worst Johansen can be bought out any year of his contract for 5M capsavings per seasons. His buyout caphit is 2.67M for # of years left on contract x 2. Poile has proven with the Turris safa that he'd rather buy someone out than expend resources to get someone to take him.
