The Dream

Description
Landeskog is the dream for this year. He's a guy I overpay for, and the Kings can afford it -- now and going forward.

Saad is probably more likely, though.

To add more NHL talent on defense, go for a guy like Reilly for a short deal.

Also, Austin Wagner, Blake Lizotte, and Brendan Lemieux are legitimate roadblocks for players that need to get looks this season.

Now that Byfield is able to play in the AHL next season due to the new OHL/AHL exception, I don't think we'll see him in the Kings lineup before January at the earliest. He's going to start the season with the Reign then get loaned to the WJC.

Center Core is Cheeks, Add Danault from UFA and it looks like a hard fight for 4th in pacific and possibly 3rd but Edmonton Vegas are t2 then Vancouver/Calgary should be #3.

Yeah, I know. I probably should have mentioned that more specifically, but that's kind of what I meant by Lizotte being a roadblock. It kills me that Lizotte is going to play meaningful minutes over Byfield this year.

In the end this is the "dream" roster, as the title suggests.

Thoughts on the contracts, and roster configuration? I know that Lemieux, Lizotte, and Wagner will probably take the scratches slots unless something happens in the offseason to move them.

Agreed, but I think Landeskog can get $9-10 from Seattle with no income tax we’ll be beat out.

I don't know what "is Cheeks" means. Danault is redundant and I hope doesn't sign in LA. The Kings already have a top defensive center in the game. I don't think they need to add more than this to compete for 3rd.

I was a little worried about Seattle, but my honest guesses for Landeskog are LA or NYI. I guess it all depends on who the Kraken go hard after in free agency, but they are significantly far away from competing as the roster stand currently. And I don't think one player in Gabe is going to change that. He wants to go to a team that's going to be competing, and LA is coming up on their window shortly while the Islanders are there now. That's why I think those two.

Seattle and Landeskog reportedly talked during the exclusive free agency window prior to the expansion draft and weren't to make any progress on a contract. I'd be surprised if he ended up there.

I'd consider signing Danault, but not for 6 years @ $5M/season. If he wants to take a 2-3 year, $4M AAV contract, then sure. Otherwise someone else can have him.

Danault wants paid sadly, Maybe LA Go after someone like Wennberg or Granlund or both, why not let the youth develop in the AHL

They will let the kids develop until they're ready. I imagine the four centers this season will be Kopitar, Vilardi, Lizotte, and Anderson-Dolan. Byfield, Kupari, and Madden should all be NHL ready in a season or two.

I like Danault as a player, but this is $1M too much for 2 years too long.

Yeah especially when you have good C prospects and I still see the LA team as a fringe wild card team if that TBH
