Canucks2022-2023

Created by: monkeymo
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 26, 2021
Published: Jul. 26, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- Horvat and Miller final year before UFA
- Ferland's final year as LITR cap bonus
- Trade for Sam Reinhart's signing rights at end of 2021-2022 season; FLA will be in a cap crunch, Reinhart wants to play closer to Vancouver
- Avoid qualifying offer with Boesser ($7.5M) and give him close to it on a short term deal that benefits both the team and Boesser (flat cap will end and gives Boesser one more opportunity a massive contract at age 28)
- Trade Schmidt to any contending team; ideally get a 2nd and/or 3rd round pick but any collection that includes at least a 3rd and late rounds (4-7) is sufficient.
- Do not give long term deal to Rathbone, he does not have offersheet or arbitration rights, he will only have played 1 NHL pro year. 1-2 year show me deal.
- With the AHL team in Abby, we can toll away cap space daily with our depth forwards, we can maximize cap space with "call ups/downs" daily to fit depth players (AHL/league min type players) onto the roster.

I don't think there is any chance that after what Cale Makar got that Hughes wants a short term deal like that. You most likely look at 7.5-8.5 Million for a 6 year deal if you want him on the team.

The Sam Reinhart deal is a complete joke they just got him for a 1st and Levi you probably gonna have to give up more for him. Reinhart was just fine going to Florida, and they won't be in that much of a cap crunch when some big contracts are coming off very soon. Nate Schmidt you mine as well call him a cap dump at this point there isn't gonna be anyone wanting to pay much for an overpaid player like him, and you definitely aren't going to get a 2nd and a 3rd and a 7th out of him.

The Panthers won't be in a cap crunch. They will have over 20 million to sign Barkov and Verhaeghe, and the two won't be commanding more than 15-16M. Also, Reinhart is likely signing a long-term deal.

Verhagee got $4.16M so they have $21M to sign Barkov, 3 top 9 forwards and a top 6 D-man. Then the following year notable expiring contracts are Weager and Hubredeau are UFA and Knight are RFA. Hubredeau we suspect should be at $8M and weager closer to $5M. If they play Knight a lot next year, all of a sudden he can be somewhere around Nedelkjicv at $3/Year. They are a good team, they cant sacrifice the entire third line to sign Reinhart IMO.

if Reinhardt is not signed to a long term deal, then at the end of the 2021-2022 for his early negotiation rights (2 day window, teams dont pay more than a conditional 4th rounder for those rights)

Right, Verhaeghe got 4,1M and if Barkov takes a bit more than 10, it'll come down to 15M between the two.

Next year, the Panthers have 22M. Of course, you have to subtract Reinhart's eventual ~6M, so they have about 16M and all they have to sign are Barkov and 2 roster players. Next year will be a walk in the park.

The year after that, the Panthers get help from buyout penalties expiring. We don't have to pay to Darling, and Yandle's dead cap will be 4,1M lower. The Panthers will have, again, over 23M in the cap to sign Huby, Weegar, Knight and 5-6 roster players. You predicted the three will combine 16M. So, again, not challenging.

And the thing is, even if a team gets in a cap crunch, the last cap casualties are top-line players. This is like asking Tampa for Cirelli because of their cap problems. Something else always gives.
