Yah you're right. Forgot he left a year before (2013-2014). Muzzin also didn't play under Dubas for the Soo, but he was still traded for. He will be a good Hyman replacement. Another young power forward. I hope we go after him

So why wouldn't the Leafs have just paid Hyman 5 million? Dodge a long term cap killer contract only to give way too much to Coleman. Bad idea

One has a bad knee history. The other doesn't and won the cup twice

Kucherov, Point, Vasilevski and Hedmon won the cup twice. The rest of the team were in the right place at the right time. Never overpay depth guys who while important, don't do the heavy lifting. Someone wants to pay him that much, let them. It's not worth it. Andrew Ladd was a hard nosed Leader with a cup ring and then the Islanders gave him a big contract. How did that turn out? Or James Neal? Mark my words, Hyman's contract will be a disaster for Edmonton within 3 seasons at most. Giving 5 million to a 3rd liner is a sure fire way to wreck your cap.

I agree on Hyman. His contract would look really bad. But he wants a 8 year deal. Coleman can get a 4 year deal. Would you rather have a 5M x 4 Coleman or $5.5M x 8 Hyman? I also think Ritchie could be a huge add for the Leafs. Plays a grittier style than Hyman

Not saying I agree with the contract above but I suspect the leafs would have gone to 5 on a four year deal.

The Oilers are paying him 40 mil. They weren't going anywhere near that and aren't in the above deal either.

I would be totally fine with a $5M x 4 year deal. The 8 years is what makes the contract horrible and will hurt the Oilers. We need a big a** like Ritchie

Both are bad contracts. I wouldn't pay Hyman more than 4 and same goes for Coleman. 3.5x3 is what I'd like to pay either of them

I certainly hope Dubas was smarter than giving Hyman 5 million. You can absolutely find 2 players for less than that who would contribute collectively more than Hyman can

Coleman isn't signing for 3.5x3 and teams are reportedly ready to give him $5M and so should the Leafs
