I like this trade for both sides. The caps pick up 2 2nds for a guy that was bound to get moved, and the jets add a solid physical dman to their struggling D core which may be worth the slight overpay.

nooooooooooooooooo
Why did we pay so much? He's literally overpaid. And worst of all it screws any chance we had of getting Hamilton

Obviously he said no....hence why the deal happened a day before FA

I kinda like this for WPG. It may be a bit of an overpay but at the end of the day this makes WPGs D core a lot stronger

Ill say fair deal

Tbf Vanecek is a good pick.

Yes but Kaakhonen was better. Swap him for Soucy and Vanecek for Dillon, and flip Dillon. A bunch of their picks made 0 sense. If you wanted to flip Pitlik, flip Fisher instead. Calgary woulda given a third. And Bayreutheur?

This is exactly what Washington traded to get him in the first place. Smart to re-coup the assets in what are supposed to be better drafts.

Think Vanecek as a pick made total sense. He's a NHL ready 1B goalie playing at below league minimum contract.

I agree that they should've picked Kähkönen though.

I think this is probably one of the few deals in the last couple days where both teams really win. Winnipeg get an upgrade on their defense with a solid defensive player. Caps free up some space and get a nice return.

Despite the price paid, Dillon is an excellent add for the Jets. Can play 20mins, score goals, block shots, hit, and can be an enforcer for their stars

I’ll admit it’s a bit of an overpay but I love this move for the Jets! This is exactly the type of guy we needed. Physical LHD who isn’t a liability defensively. Winnipeg’s not an easy sell to a lot of players so to get one with 3 years left at a reasonable AAV, I love it!

Excellent summary.
This why this is a win for Jets.

Most Caps ACGM had him being moved for a mid pick, and considered him a cap dump. To get two seconds for a guy we HAD to move and had virtually no leverage? Pretty convincing win for Washington. I can't imagine a betting war for Dillon, so not like there was any competition?

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO

From day one Dillon was someone that always had the glaring negatives and the glaring positives. His turnovers and awful defensive positioning (especially in transition) made most of the fanbase turn on him rather quickly. The physical element he brings is nice, especially to fend off opposing forecheckers or clear the crease, and his shot blocking will be missed. But in the end, I think it's a net positive for the Caps.

Exactly. People who say Winnipeg overpaid here don't understand the problems they and other markets (hello Edmonton!) have trying to sign UFA's.

When not overpaying for a UFA, trading for a player is just as tough.

Two second rounders who may never amount to anything, Jets get a solid defender for the next 3 years who they badly needed. Major win for the Jets

Yeah the league is officially obsessed with big physical players. That's more than Buchnevech. imagine what the capitals could get for Wilson.

Wilson would get suspended for hitting the trade block from behind.

The only reason I don't like it from a Capitals perspective is that they had a very good penalty kill last year and both left shot defenders that played 100 PK minutes are gone (Chara and Dillon). Kempny and Orlov are capable but Orlov was healthy and played very sheltered minutes on the PK. Can Fehervary be trusted to fill a key role on the PK?

Fehervary is ready and was ready... Capitals wasted a year of his career by signing Chara they also trade JS bc of Chara. Capitals more than likely use one of the 2nd round picks to dump Hags and Kemp to AZ and sign a Vet to a 1 year deal. after this year AA is ready and our young guys should be on the NHL roster

Good pickup for Winnipeg. High asset price but also a good cap hit for three more seasons for what he provides. Their defense looks a heck of a lot better than any time in the last few seasons.

Morrissey-RHD Acquisition
Dillon-Pionk
Stanley-DeMelo

Dillion and DeMelo played together in San Jose so we should play them together

I wouldn't mind hanging onto Hagelin for a year. As mentioned before, the penalty kill was excellent and Hagelin led the forwards in SH/TOI. Add to the that the 4th line was probably the most consistent line all year and they're already losing or have lost Dillon and Chara so who steps up to join Eller and Dowd as PK forwards?
