The retention seems kind of pointless, no?

Picked that number just to make Gourde’s cap hit match Strome’s. I don’t know how much Seattle would realistically retain or if they’d even trade Gourde but I’d overpay to get him.

Why the hell do I see so many people trying to trade Strome for Gourde. Gourde is still good, but so is Strome and he’s 1.5 years younger and puts up better numbers?

I say this as someone who has not been the biggest Strome fan since he’s been here and am fully on board for trading him for the right return. I just don’t think Gourde is it.

Given that teams are only allowed to do retention on three contracts, and the krakens apparent wish to weaponize cap space, I kind of doubt they do retention that small.

Gourde is so so so much better than strome. That’s why.

I actually like Strome more than most but it’s pretty clear he’s getting traded this offseason. Gourde’s point production comes nowhere close to Strome but he brings a 2 way presence, championship pedigree(which Drury is looking for), and he’s great on faceoffs where NYR were terrible last year.

I bet they would, with more compensation. They’re going to look to maximize compensation for retained contracts.
