Very unrealistic idea

Description
CAR -
Gives up a 2nd for Zucc at 3M, and no more Gardiner.

BUF -
Retains half on both Zucc and Gardiner (5M, 5M and 3M over next 3 years). Loses Eichel. Gets everything else listed. Technically not 4 1sts but still some legit value here IMO.

MIN -
Gets Eichel, loses Zucc, Rossi, 2 1sts and Beckman. Rask cap dump. Probably the least incentive here.

Before the pitchforks come out, I understand this is ridiculous. I’m just messing around with an idea.

Minnesota would only have 8mill to re-sign/sign 8 starting roster players in 2022.

While the idea of Zucc and Gardiner trade is different, it would kill Buffalo’s ability to retain cap and get good assets at the TD for 2 years. They would be left with one slot only.

If buffalo is retaining on both gardiner and zuccarello, it would be 2m for both years, and 3m for 3 years of zuccarello. Thats 13 million for a 2nd and a 3rd.

Yeah lots of major issues along with just generally being something that would never actually occur. Was just kicking the tires on using BUF to stash some money and try something new around an Eichel trade.

Good call, that’s a very solid point that I didn’t consider. Was mostly just trying to come up with an original idea for a contract swap and Eichel trade. Good feedback.

Yep I spelled that out in the description.

Yeah no this wasn’t actually a proposal on what I want or think they should do. I was hoping to stir up some dialogue around potentially funneling Zucc through BUF (or somewhere else) for retention purposes.

Sort of a half baked way to try and keep Fiala while also getting Eichel. Not that I even want them to go for Eichel. I just get sick of the same old 4 1st proposals, or plugging a roster with a ton of stable real GM moves.

I think you would have to significantly overpay to get something like that. I bet they would do gardiners, zuccarello is a bridge too far. Because it isnt enough, its bad management, and our owner would say no chance. Our owner is worth 5.5 billion, and hes certainly not cheap, but hes starting to notice the bottom line more, and i dont see any way hes eating 13 million to finish in 32nd place, and thats all he gets for the return.

Oh definitely. In a vacuum there’s no way BUF would agree on both. CapFriendly just doesn’t really let you do 3 team trades, but the intention was for it to all be one large deal. Even still, I think you’d have to incentivize more, but the main idea was that BUF gets 2 1sts, Rossi, Beckman, 2nd and 3rd. Which IMO hits both quality and quantity. There’s a lot of garbage coming back in Rask + retention, but from a pure money standpoint BUF is wayyy net green here with losing Eichels 50M. So dollars and cents, they’re winning but from a raw value standpoint, they’re probably not extracting enough on the retention.

As a Sabres fan, I’d counter with:
Keep the two 1sts, and give me Boldy & Wellstadt instead- along with Rossi, and I’d be ok with Beckman. But we could also talk about swapping him out with a different prospect as well, bc there’s a few other guys of yours i like who you might rather part with.

I’ve got no interest in Rask, but if we have to take him to make the $$$ work, then that’s fine.

And I’d be willing to eat the Cap on that other deal u propose as well
Or of it makes it easier, we could just add Colin Miller to the deal- he’s better than Gardiner imo anyways. If u don’t want him, that’s fine too & we can retain Cap in your other trade proposal
I’d even take Zuccarello as well for $$$ reasons if u guys need more space.

So how about:
-Eichel & C.Miller
for
-Rossi, Boldy & Wellstadt (main trade components)
-Zuccarello & Rask (for Cap purposes so u can keep Fiala)
-1 of your “b” level prospects who has some upside OR if u want to lose more Cap, we’ll take Foligno back

So gracious of uhh oh to take foligno as a cap dump, even though he finishes every season with selke votes. Kudos on making it seem like him and zuccarello are a burden to take on and not quality nhl players. Foligno being better between them for his contract.

How about if zuccarello and foligno are added minnesota drops rossi, boldy and wellsradt. Then you get beckman, zuccarello foligno and a 1st. That seems more fair than half the wilds team going to buffalo for eichel.

Ok, take Zuccarello & Foligno out of it
